Pocahontas School District Announces New Mobile App Pocahontas School District is excited to announce the release of the District’s new mobile app. The app will provide users with a “one stop” destination for all district news and information pertaining to the Pocahontas School District and its schools. Everything from school lunch calendars to sports scores can be found in our app. The app is available in both iPhone and Android platforms. Search “Pocahontas Public Schools, AR”in both the iTunes Store and Google Play to download the apps. The district will provide additional information, regarding use of the app, in the coming week

PHS Student Council is sponsoring the bell-ringing at Walmart for the Salvation Army. The dates are Saturday, December 5 and December 12. There are some two-hour time slots still available. If you would like to participate and help the Salvation Army raise funds, please contact PHS StuCo President Lacey Moore to schedule your time to ring the bell.

Any non-basketball player in grades 9-12 interested in trying out for baseball must attend tryouts on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week after school in the athletic complex. You must attend all 3 days to be eligible for tryouts.

Spanish Club: Concert attendees meet with Mrs. Inman at 12:15 in her room today.

FFA: Discussion and Extemporaneous Speaking will be meeting on Tuesday at 3:30-4:30 pm

Art Club will be painting windows at Brothers' Flooring after school (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday).

Creed speaking practice will be meeting at Tuesday at 4 pm for practice.

The OCC team will practice at 5 pm in the Agriculture Building

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE! We have a JUNGLE COMMITTEE meeting at 12:10 Wednesday in the GYM! Anyone interested in choosing themes for this year's basketball jungle please attend! We need your ideas and feedback! --Mrs. Nead

FFA: Public Speaking practice will take place on Thursday at 3:30-4:30

Circle of Friends members will meet Thursday at lunch in the Chemistry Room, to make Tie-Dye Shirts with Mrs. Hall. Please be prompt.

LINK members that plan to attend the field trip MUST meet Thursday at lunch.

The trip is Friday, December 18. Cost $29 - includes movie, bowling, and laser tag

Pocahontas Swim Meet at Cabot

The PHS and PJHS Choirs will be singing Christmas carols at the old Randolph County Courthouse on Thursday, December 3rd, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. There will be several other groups performing before the annual Pocahontas Christmas parade begins later that evening.

FRIDAY

The FFA Christmas Party will take place Friday from 5-7 pm on the town square at Marilyn's Clogging Company. Sign up to bring a side dish by Wednesday check with Mr. Washburn to sign up.

Semester Test Schedule:

Tuesday, Dec. 15 - Periods 6-7. Students on regular schedule periods 1-5.

Wednesday, Dec. 16 Periods 3, 4, 5. Make-ups for periods 6 and 7. Students on regular schedule periods 1 and 2.

Thursday, Dec. 17 - Periods 1 and 2, make-ups for periods 3-5.

Friday, Dec. 18 - Make-ups for periods 1 and 2.

-Students are to test according to the semester test schedule - NO EARLY TESTING.
Choir:The PHS and PJHS Choirs will also be performing on Thursday, December 10th, at the two area nursing homes.

Swim Team:Monday & Wednesday- drylands at Alma Spikes gym….Tuesday & Thursday- weights in the athletic complex

The Swim Team has T-shirts for sale. They are red with the indian head and say ‘Pocahontas Swimming’ on the front of the shirt. There is a picture posted on the bulletin board. Shirts are $9.00 and should be turned in to the office or Sara Frazier at Alma Spikes.

Circle of Friends:If anyone is interested in joining the Circle of Friends, peer applications are available in the office.

FFA Blacksmith metal/art committeemeets Wednesdays at lunch in the agri building.

FFA Community service committeemeets Thursdays at lunch.

The Eastern District FFA Leadership Contest will take place December 8th, at ASU in Jonesboro at 9 am. Please wish them all good luck next week.

SWATmeetings every Wednesday in Mrs. Baty’s room (Rm 22) at lunch- Bring your lunch!

Math tutoringis available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday BEFORE SCHOOL (7:00 - 7:50 in Rm 18 - Henderson) and AFTER SCHOOL (3:30 - 4:30 in Rm 26 - Steimel). Literacy and other subjects tutoringis available Tuesday and Thursday after school 3:30 - 4:30 in Rm 24 - Bass.

Athletic passes will be handed out to Basketball, Cheerleaders, Swim Team and Pep Band students by their Coaches and Directors.Winter Athletic passes are good for winter sports only (Basketball games). You must show your Athletic pass to the gate workers in order to enter the event for free. If you do not have your pass, you must pay the entry fee.Fall Athletic passes are not good for Basketball Games.

Announcements from the counselor's office...

Transcripts can be printed from student’s HAC accounts. However, if an official transcript is needed you must bring it to the office to be stamped and sealed.

Seniors, who are in the ATU recruitment database, will soon receive information about our 42ndannual Creative Writing Contest. Attached you will find a flyer for distribution. Submissions must be received byJanuary 15, 2016. Awards are announced duringTime Out for Tech.

To be considered for scholarships at Arkansas State University - Jonesboro you must be fully admitted by December 1st. This is the Tuesday we return from Thanksgiving Break. If you are considering attending please apply this week. If you will email me I can send your transcript and ACT scores. If you wish to use your most recent scores that we have not yet received, you may ask the office to copy your personal set from the website and place the school seal on them. However, if you included ASU as a school to receive your scores this should not be necessary.

SENIORS

Seniors check the spelling of your name on the list on the board across from the office. This is how it will appear on your diploma, so make sure your name is spelled correctly.

You may submit any pictures or write up information tophs_yearbook@pocahontaspsd.com. Yearbook is needing your pictures from the summer… vacation pics, job pics, etc.

COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK NOVEMBER 30TH - DECEMBER 4TH

See Ms. Crutcher to apply for college this week. Seniors who apply during this week or who have proof they have applied will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Wal-Mart gift card, $25 Itunes gift card. BRTC applicants will be entered into those drawings as well as a drawing for a BRTC sweatshirt.

Seniors are invited to "Show Me Day" at Southeast Missouri State. To schedule your visit go towww.semo.edu/visit. If you plan to attend on aMondayvisit you will need to pick up a college day form in the office and then see Mrs. Hogan.

WinField is keeping the tradition of theCareers in Agriculture Scholarship Program, by announcing the kick-off for this year’s offering, today. Scholarships worth$1,000 will be awarded to 10 high school seniors and 10 college studentsin their first or second year who demonstrate scholastic achievement, leadership in agriculture and a perceived ability to contribute to agriculture in the future. BRTC Scholarships - The deadline for scholarships has changed toMarch 1st, unless otherwise noted on the specific details. Also, note the slight change on the application that addresses the essay requirements. Check your email for the application.

  1. The first scholarship is "Aspiring Fashion Professional" Scholarship. This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited post-secondary school or college.   1. The 2nd Scholarship is the "Aspiring Animation Professional" Scholarship Program. This is the 5th year we are awarding this scholarship for AnimationCareerReview.com. This will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited post-secondary school or college. Nursing Schools Almanac has just launched its second annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. They will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:

+ A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics

+ A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare

This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs. Scholarship applications will be accepted until midnight on June 30, 2016.
