GENERAL NEWS

It’s Hot Roll Time!!!  Place orders by November 8th with any building cafeteria. This is an annual fundraiser to help needy families in our school district.

The "Belles of Christmas" pageant will be held at MDW on Sunday, November 12th at 2 p.m. It is "Sunday Best" and it is not too late to enter!! There are forms located in the hallway across from the office if you are interested. Please see Mrs. Bryant at Jr. high for any questions!

Concurrent credit applications and dual credit applications along with the BRTC schedule will be available to those interested on Tuesday,  November 14th.  If you plan to take a class for concurrent credit or dual credit you will need to work with Mrs. Hogan to determine the classes you will be enrolling in.  Applications for credit will be due in the counselor's office no later than Friday, December 1st once students have the required parent signature.

Come support the Pocahontas History Club as they present the "Haunted Pocahontas Tour" on Thursday, November 16th @ 7:00 p.m.  The cost is $5.00 and will last approximately one hour.  The tour will begin at the Downtown Playhouse and end at the Court House.

Choir will be hosting a Coffee Shop Talent Revue full of music and entertainment on December 1st from 6-8pm. Tickets will be $5 and will go on sale November 6th during lunch. See any choir student or Mrs. Moffett to purchase a ticket.

*If you would like to audition for a spot to perform during the Coffee Shop Talent Revue, sign up on the poster in front of Mrs. Moffett’s room. Auditions are open to any student at PJHS & PHS. There will be audition spots open for skits, poetry reading, and music acts. There are only 15 spots available to perform, so bring your best solo or group act and help raise money for the choir program!”

If you have borrowed a calculator from Mrs. Steimel, please return it ASAP!!!

The Clothing Closet is now up and running.  We have lots of items to choose from so if you need anything please see Mrs. Steimel

Tutoring has begun: Literacy with Mrs. Bass (includes all other areas) on Tuesday and Thursday each week. Tutoring is after school from 3:30-4:30.

Math Tutoring 3:30-4:30 Tuesday-Thursday of each week!

REMINDER to Students & Staff:  If students arrive on campus after the tardy bell at 8:00 a.m. they are to check in at the office.  Students should have a tardy slip/pass from the office if they come into class after the bell; if not send them to the office to sign in.

***Please remember to use caution when walking to and from buildings.  Students should use the crosswalks especially of the mornings and the afternoons when traffic is the busiest.  Drivers please use caution and be aware of students walking around campus.

CLUB NEWS

LINK meetings are every Monday in Mrs. Moffett's room from 12:10-12:30. Contact Mrs.Cox for more details.

S.W.A.T. will meet on every Tuesday in Mrs. Baty's room.  Everyone is invited.  You can bring your lunch.

Key Club  meets every Wednesday in Mr. James Room (#19)

Anyone interested in Blacksmithing and metal art the FFA has a meeting at lunch each Wednesday, bring your lunch to Mr. Hogan's Classroom

NHS meetings are every Thursday during lunch at 12:15 in Mrs. Murray's room for officers and committee members only.  ALL members will meet the first Thursday of each month (same time & place).  Role is taken at each meeting and members must participate.

SENIOR NEWS

Seniors remember to check your email often for news and updates pertinent to you.

Seniors who are interested in attending Black River Technical College are invited to the Education & Career Opportunities Preview Day on November 28th. Students will leave the PHS campus at 9:00 am and return no later than 2:00 pm. Lunch will be provided. Students MUST pre-register with Mrs. Stewart and pick up a consent to travel form. Please return the consent to travel form to Mrs. Stewart by 3:30pm on November 17th.  No late forms will be accepted.

Pictures and Write-Ups for Senior Ads are Due November 27th.  Ads can be purchased through Ms. Crutcher (Rm 4), any yearbook staffer, through the ReplayIt App or www.jostensadservices.com

Senior Pictures are Due January 8th, 2018.  Seniors may submit a senior picture or use their composite.

Remember as you are applying to attend post-secondary schools you must complete a PHS Transcript and Records Release Form to schools you are considering.  Mrs. Hogan has attached this document and sent to your email account.

Important information in your email  regarding A-State and ACT scores for consideration of admission and consideration for institutional scholarships.

U of A New Freshman Scholarships - NOVEMBER 15 - Priority Scholarship Deadline: Submit a scholarship application by this date for priority consideration for academic scholarships

UALR has announced their scholarship deadline this year as:  Friday, December 1st.  Seniors you must apply and submit  prior to the deadline.

Arkansas State Early Admit is December 1st

License2HOWL Freshman Scholarships - info in your email.. Application deadline is 5:00 pm, Friday, December 1st.

The ACCUPLACER will be given to seniors that would like to raise their college placement score. This will not be the only date the test will be given, however you are encourage to sign up for this date as we will take the first 15 students. To register to take the test simply reply by marking "yes". By raising scores students can qualify for the Arkansas Challenge Scholarship and prevent college remediation.  Tuesday, December 5th in the PHS Library from 8 - 10 a.m.  As of 11/2 there are 2 seats left for any senior that wants to take the ACCUPLACER December 5th.  Please reply to the invitation in your calendar.

ACT Student Champion Award - applications can be found at www.act.org/readinesschampions and are due December 31, 2017.  Questions directed to ccrc@act.org.

NHS Scholarship program opens October 6th… application deadline is January 30, 2018.  

Ready, Set, Graduate is set to take place at BRTC on March 16th.  All the seniors are invited to attend

Way to go Swim Team!!! They placed 2nd overall at the GCT Invitational and the boys placed 1st while the girls placed 4th.  Way to start off the season !

Project Graduation Meeting Tuesday, November 7th @ 5:30pm in the PHS Cafeteria. Parents and students are both invited. We will be discussing upcoming fundraiser ideas/events and what we have done so far. Hope to see you all there.

Football  players are to be released at 11:00…. Cheerleaders and Band will be dismissed at 11:25.  They will have lunch and prepare to leave for Dumas.

Redskin Football 1st round game of the 4A State Playoffs at Dumas where they will play the Bobcats. Let’s Go Skins… So proud of you and your hard work this season !!!

UPCOMING EVENTS

November 13th -  ASVAB test in the Library 8 -11:30. Respond to invitation sent by Mrs. Hogan to sign up.

November 16th - Haunted Pocahontas Tour @ 7:00 pm.  The tour will start at the Downtown Playhouse and end at the courthouse.  Come out and learn some haunted history about Pocahontas and support the History Club.

November 20th - 24th.  Pocahontas Public Schools will be closed for the Thanksgiving holidays for the week.  Schools will re-open on Monday, November 27th.

November 28th - Education & Career Opportunities Preview Day for Seniors interested in attending BRTC.  Pre Registration and travel consent forms due back November 17th.

December 1st - Coffee Shop Talent Revue from 6 - 8 pm in the PJHS Cafeteria

December 4th - Josten’s will be here to deliver class rings!!!  To pay or check balance call 1-800-567-8367.  Checks will not be accepted on delivery day.

December 4th - SEGP advisors will meet with students in their classrooms 2nd period.

December 5th - The Rep from BRTC will be on campus at lunch to visit with students interested in attending the college.

December 5th - ACCUPLACER for Seniors from 8 -10 a.m. in the PHS Library.
