GENERAL NEWS

Seniors - Ready, Set, Graduate is Friday, March 16th at BRTC.  If you have not signed the sign up sheet and would like to go please see Mrs. Casillas or Mrs. Blalock for a permission slip.  Permission slips are due back by Wednesday, March 14th.

ALL NHS Seniors must update their service hours and get that form to Mrs. Steimel to receive a cord for graduation!!

Project Graduation is having a raffle for a shopping spree. Seniors can pick up tickets from Mrs. Victoria in the cafeteria. Tickets for the raffle will be sold $1 each.

SWIM TEAM:  Please turn in your swim gear!  You can turn them into the PHS office or into the Alma Spikes office.

Juniors who are interested in attending BRTC are invited to attend an Education and Career Opportunities Preview Day on March 29th.  Please use the following link to register  http://bit.ly/BRTCPreview Day Permission slips may be picked up in Mrs. Stewart's office and must be returned by March 16th.  Seniors who did not attend the ECO Day in the fall are also invited to attend.

Attention:  Please remember that students are not to have pocket knives in their possession while in school or on or about school property.

****MASH**** Applications for the Jonesboro program at UAMS have been sent via email from Mrs. Hogan.  Program Dates June 4th - 14th…… Deadline to apply is March 14th. Current sophomores and juniors are eligible for the program.

***MASH*** Applications for the Pocahontas program at BRTC have been sent via email from Mrs. Hogan.  Program Dates are June 18th - 28th.  Deadline to apply is March 15th.

Attention Seniors!!! It is time to start turning in pictures for the Senior slide show at Prom. Please submit up to 10 pictures (IF YOU TURN IN MORE THAN 10, IT WILL BE OUR DISCRETION WHAT 10 WILL BE USED). We prefer that you email them to us at pocahontasprom@gmail.com. If that isn't possible, please turn a copy of the pictures you want used to Mrs. Baty. Deadline to turn in pictures is March 21st.

St. Bernards Jr. Volunteer Summer Program-Now Accepting Applications!The session will be held from July 6th - 27th.  Check your email to download the application.  Deadline for applying is May 4th.

*** REMINDER:  Students are not to be on the parking lot during the school day without prior approval and signing out in the office.  Also,  once you arrive on campus students are to exit their vehicles and come into the building.  Students are not to sit out in their cars once on campus. ***

Driver's Education - Driver's Ed will be offered at PJHS for Students at PJHS and PHS. on the following dates:  Tuesday, May 29th, Wednesday, May 30th,Thursday, May 31st, Friday, June 1st,  and Saturday, June 2nd (and/or Monday June 4th).  8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m (1 hour lunch break).  Only 15 seats available.  Must have driver's permit and $200.00 paid to the PJHS office to be place on the Class list.  (checks should be dated May 29th and will be deposited on the first day of class).  Please see Mrs. Bandy in the Jr. High Office.

PHS Clothing Closet ~~~~~ Visit The Clothing Closet!!

Students may take whatever they need. The closet is frequently refilled with new/used things so visit often! "The Closet" is located in the Kitchen Home Economics Building. One door remains open for student convenience. Many coats & scarves have been recently donated! If students or parents need to visit the closet before/after school or on the weekend, please contact Mrs. Steimel – lori.steimel@pocahontaspsd.com.  Names are kept confidential!!

Tutoring has begun: Literacy with Mrs. Bass (includes all other areas) on Tuesday and Thursday each week. Tutoring is after school from 3:30-4:30.

Math Tutoring 3:30-4:30 Tuesday-Thursday of each week!

REMINDER to Students & Staff:  If students arrive on campus after the tardy bell at 8:00 a.m. they are to check in at the office.  Students should have a tardy slip/pass from the office if they come into class after the bell; if not send them to the office to sign in.

***Please remember to use caution when walking to and from buildings.  Students should use the crosswalks especially of the mornings and the afternoons when traffic is the busiest.  Drivers please use caution and be aware of students walking around campus.

CLUB NEWS

LINK meetings are every Monday in Mrs. Moffett's room from 12:10-12:30. Contact Mrs.Cox for more details.

S.W.A.T. will meet on every Tuesday in Mrs. Baty's room.  Everyone is invited.  You can bring your lunch.

Key Club  meets every Wednesday in Mr. James Room (#19)

Anyone interested in Blacksmithing and metal art the FFA has a meeting at lunch each Wednesday, bring your lunch to Mr. Hogan's Classroom

Circle of Friends will meet every Thursday during lunch in the student center. Please see Mrs. Courtney Throesch if you want to join the fun!!

SENIOR NEWS

REMINDER:  If you are taking a College Day (college tour, interview, etc. you must get a form from the office and have it signed by Mrs. Hogan and a parent. The form must be turned into the office prior to the day of your visit.  You also must bring back a note from your college day for verification.  IF A COLLEGE DAY FORM IS NOT TURNED IN PRIOR TO THE VISIT IT WILL NOT BE AN EXCUSED ABSENCE.

Remember as you are applying to attend post-secondary schools you must complete a PHS Transcript and Records Release Form to schools you are considering.  Mrs. Hogan has attached this document and sent to your email account.

American Legion Auxiliary has Scholarships Available for High School Seniors!  See your email for details.

More than 200 scholarships are available for eligible Arkansas students through Arkansas Community Foundation.  Go to www.arcf.org/scholarships to apply.  Requirements for applying to these varies with each.  Check to see if you fit some of the requirements.

Ag Heritage Farm Credit Services  Scholarship applications must be submitted by March 15th. See your email for eligibility requirements and application website.

Arkansas Trucking Association announces a new scholarship for Arkansas technician students…. Applications will be accepted through March 16th.

Ready, Set, Graduate is set to take place at BRTC on March 16th.  All seniors are invited to attend

Seniors who plan to pursue higher education in the medical field are encourage to apply for the Martha Ahrent Memorial Scholarship.  Applications can be picked up in the counselors office.  Applications must be postmarked by March 16th.

High Voltage Lineman Training Sponsorship - Applications are available at http://www.claycountyelectric.com/high-voltage-lineman-training.   Submit applications by close of business Friday, March 30, 2018.

Northeast Arkansas Wounded Warrior Group Scholarship- application and info in your email.  Application must be postmarked no later than April 6, 2018.

$2000 Accuplan Scholarship….visit https://www.accuplan.net/scholarship-promo.htm for more information..  Must apply by May 31, 2018.

BRTC will now be offering the Academic Incentive Scholarship to students who have a composite ACT score of 19-23.  This scholarship will be in the amount of $250 per semester and is renewable up to four semesters provided the recipient completes a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester and maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.0.  In order to receive the Academic Incentive Scholarship, the student will need to complete the Application for Admissions and Scholarships and be accepted for admissions at BRTC.

Quiz Bowl Regional Competition at PHS

A drop-in event will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Weatherford Hall from 1:00- 4:00 for the release and signing event for retired teacher, Carol A. Kick for her first published work, “Little One”.   The public is cordially invited.
