*** PLEASE NO CHARGING MEALS IN MAY ***  (However, please know no child will ever be refused a school meal)  This allows us to close out the school year in a timely fashion.  We ask all outstanding charges be fully paid prior to the end of school, please contact Patty Moore if you need to discuss your account.   

There was a black tuxedo vest left at prom.  If you are missing one it is here in the office!

SENIORS:   We still have several  orders from Jostens in the office.  Orders must be paid in full. If you need to know your balance we have that information also.

*******The State Track Meet will be held here on our campus on Tuesday, May 1st.  While the track meet is going on please do not let your students go down to the track or take your classes down there.  Also, we will need to make adjustments in our parking areas to accommodate the meet. Seniors will have to park in junior parking. The front row in front of the school and the first row facing the curb should be left open. Also, faculty members will not be able to park in the area beside the cafeteria on this day.  Parking will be very crowded on Tuesday so please park appropriately in the spaces*******

PARKING:  Remember to park in your class designated areas.  We have several underclassmen parking in the wrong areas.  If you are caught you will receive after school detention!

GENERAL NEWS

Special Athletics Track & Field Day T-shirt order forms are available by the bulletin board across from the office.  Orders and money are due May 4th.

PHS Senior Breakfast from 7:15 to 7:55 a.m. on Friday, May 4th.  Biscuit & Gravy, Sausage and Scrambled Eggs, Milk & Juice.  $2.10 for an adult/extra items are an additional charge. Parents and Grandparents are invited to enjoy breakfast with their Senior student!  Please enter the building through the stairwell and sign in.

ALL Library books should be turned in by May 11th.

Student Council Representative Elections will be Friday, May 11th.  Paperwork will be available Monday, April 30th.  Deadline for paperwork is Wednesday, May 9th.

Class Officer Elections will be Friday, May 4th.  Paperwork will be available Monday, April 23rd.  Deadline for paperwork is Wednesday, May 2nd.

ATTENTION STUDENTS: Notes for absences (dr appts, parent notes, court, etc.) should be turned into the office first thing in the morning on the day you return.  This will help eliminate calling you out of classes to take care of this.

Project Graduation is selling chances on a $200 gift certificate to Vision Care in Pocahontas towards the purchase of a pair of Costa or Ray Ban sunglasses.  Tickets are $1.00 each. See Kinley Johnson to purchase. The voucher will be given away at the last jr high home baseball game on April 30th.

St. Bernards Jr. Volunteer Summer Program-Now Accepting Applications!The session will be held from July 6th - 27th.  Check your email to download the application. Deadline for applying is May 4th.

Driver's Education - Driver's Ed will be offered at PJHS for Students at PJHS and PHS. on the following dates:  Tuesday, May 29th, Wednesday, May 30th,Thursday, May 31st, Friday, June 1st, and Saturday, June 2nd (and/or Monday June 4th).  8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m (1 hour lunch break). Only 15 seats available. Must have driver's permit and $200.00 paid to the PJHS office to be place on the Class list.  (checks should be dated May 29th and will be deposited on the first day of class). Please see Mrs. Bandy in the Jr. High Office.

Mrs. Hogan has applications for the Upward Bound Math - Science program.

 

PHS Clothing Closet ~~~~~ Visit The Clothing Closet!!

Students may take whatever they need. The closet is frequently refilled with new/used things so visit often! "The Closet" is located in the Kitchen Home Economics Building. One door remains open for student convenience. Many coats & scarves have been recently donated! If students or parents need to visit the closet before/after school or on the weekend, please contact Mrs. Steimel – lori.steimel@pocahontaspsd.com.  Names are kept confidential!!

Tutoring: Literacy with Mrs. Bass (includes all other areas) on Tuesday and Thursday each week. Tutoring is after school from 3:30-4:30.

Please note the adjustment to the math tutoring schedule… Mrs. Steimel will only tutor as needed.  Mrs. Murray and Mr. Helms tutoring sessions are the same.

Attention:  Please remember that students are not to have pocket knives in their possession while in school or on or about school property.

*** REMINDER:  Students are not to be on the parking lot during the school day without prior approval and signing out in the office.  Also, once you arrive on campus students are to exit their vehicles and come into the building. Students are not to sit out in their cars once on campus. ***

REMINDER to Students & Staff:  If students arrive on campus after the tardy bell at 8:00 a.m. they are to check in at the office.  Students should have a tardy slip/pass from the office if they come into class after the bell; if not send them to the office to sign in.

***Please remember to use caution when walking to and from buildings.  Students should use the crosswalks especially of the mornings and the afternoons when traffic is the busiest.  Drivers please use caution and be aware of students walking around campus.

CLUB NEWS

FFA:  The FFA Banquet will be May 3rd at 6 pm in the Jr High Cafeteria

Any eighth grade student going into 9th grade wanting to show a livestock animal for the summer and fall show seasons.  Please see Mr. Washburn by no latter that May 4th 2018.

Any 10th-12th grade students want to show a livestock animal for summer and fall see Mr. Washburn by no later than May 4th,2018.  

SENIOR NEWS

REMINDER:  If you are taking a College Day (college tour, interview, etc. you must get a form from the office and have it signed by Mrs. Hogan and a parent. The form must be turned into the office prior to the day of your visit.  You also must bring back a note from your college day for verification. IF A COLLEGE DAY FORM IS NOT TURNED IN PRIOR TO THE VISIT IT WILL NOT BE AN EXCUSED ABSENCE.

Remember as you are applying to attend post-secondary schools you must complete a PHS Transcript and Records Release Form to schools you are considering.  Mrs. Hogan has attached this document and sent to your email account. Please remember

Just a reminder that if you have received a scholarship from a 2 year, 4 year, or educational assistance from having joined the military I need your form no later than April 9th.  This form is needed for end of the year activities if you want to be recognized. If you lost your form or did not get one during the senior meeting you may stop by or email me for one.

American Legion Auxiliary has Scholarships Available for High School Seniors!  See your email for details.

More than 200 scholarships are available for eligible Arkansas students through Arkansas Community Foundation.  Go to www.arcf.org/scholarships to apply.  Requirements for applying to these varies with each.  Check to see if you fit some of the requirements.

If you plan to attend Harding University, ASU - Searcy Campus, ASU- Beebe Campus, or ASU - Heber Springs Campus please note the opportunity to for a $250 textbook scholarship, a $150 book rental scholarship, and $100 book rental scholarship.  Details are in your email. Forms must be received by May 31st.

BRTC will now be offering the Academic Incentive Scholarship to students who have a composite ACT score of 19-23.  This scholarship will be in the amount of $250 per semester and is renewable up to four semesters provided the recipient completes a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester and maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.0.  In order to receive the Academic Incentive Scholarship, the student will need to complete the Application for Admissions and Scholarships and be accepted for admissions at BRTC.

PHS GT Students:  The University of Central Arkansas in Conway is hosting the Arkansas and the World: Model United Nations Summer Camp for GT high school students entering grades 10 - 12.  The camp will be held on July 15-20, 2018. Application deadline for the camp is May 15th.
