The Pocahontas Schools Food Backpack program will be the recipients of any kid-friendly food items donated this week to the United Way food drive. Please note that for every 6 food items donated, you are entered into a drawing to win the storage building! EZ Portable Buildings made this generous donation and will be the drop-off spot for food. They have recently moved to the corner lot of Haley’s Lumber. Please help spread the word.

ON SALE NOW!!! Football Conference Champ shirts. For sale today through Friday, November 13 @ 12:00 noon. There will not be any extras ordered. Red Long Sleeve, with front and back design. $15. Sizes Youth small-Youth large and Adult small-Adult XXXL available. There is a flyer located across from the office and one located on Coach Brooks’ door at the Junior High. Students may purchase them during lunch in the student center area or from Coach Brooks at anytime during the day at the Junior High.

Pocahontas Public Schools will be closed for the Thanksgiving holidays November 23-27, 2015. Pocahontas Public Schools will reopen on Monday, November 30, 2015.

7th Grade Boys Redskin Basketball Tournament at Home

The boys basketball games against Rector that were to be played on Saturday, November 14, have been cancelled. They will rescheduled for a later date.

The “Belles of Christmas” Pageant will be Sunday, November 15th at 2:00 at MD Williams gym. Forms are located in the hall by the bulletin board or in the high school office.

Swim Team: Monday & Wednesday- drylands at Alma Spikes gym….Tuesday & Thursday- weights in the athletic complex

Circle of Friends: If anyone is interested in joining the Circle of Friends, peer applications are available in the office.

FFA Blacksmith metal/art committee meets Wednesdays at lunch in the agri building.

FFA Community service committee meets Thursdays at lunch.

SWAT meetings every Wednesday in Mrs. Baty’s room (Rm 22) at lunch- Bring your lunch!

Math tutoring is available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday BEFORE SCHOOL (7:00 – 7:50 in Rm 18 – Henderson) and AFTER SCHOOL (3:30 – 4:30 in Rm 26 – Steimel). Literacy and other subjects tutoring is available Tuesday and Thursday after school 3:30 – 4:30 in Rm 24 – Bass.

Athletic passes are good for fall sports only (Football and Volleyball games). Spring sports passes have been handed out (Basketball, Swim). You must show your Athletic pass to the gate workers in order to enter the event for free. If you do not have your pass, you must pay the entry fee.

Scholarship opportunities are being sent to seniors email and posted in announcements as they become available. Be sure to check often.

As seniors apply to colleges they are reminded to email or see Mrs. Hogan to send transcripts and ACT scores.

Seniors, who are in the ATU recruitment database, will soon receive information about our 42nd annual Creative Writing Contest. Attached you will find a flyer for distribution. Submissions must be received by January 15, 2016. Awards are announced during Time Out for Tech.

SENIORS

Seniors check the spelling of your name on the list on the board across from the office. This is how it will appear on your diploma, so make sure your name is spelled correctly.

SENIORS: forms for the PARENT ADS for yearbook can be picked up in the baskets across the hall from the office or in Mrs. Sullinger’s room (Rm 4). The DEADLINE to have them returned is NOV. 20.

Henderson State University Preview Days – Reddie for Henderson Day will be held on Thursday, November 5th and Thursday, November 19th. We invite students and their families to visit our campus to meet faculty, staff and current students. Seniors are invited to “Show Me Day” at Southeast Missouri State. To schedule your visit go to www.semo.edu/visit. If you plan to attend on a Monday visit you will need to pick up a college day form in the office and then see Mrs. Hogan.

WinField is keeping the tradition of the Careers in Agriculture Scholarship Program, by announcing the kick-off for this year’s offering, today. Scholarships worth $1,000 will be awarded to 10 high school seniors and 10 college students in their first or second year who demonstrate scholastic achievement, leadership in agriculture and a perceived ability to contribute to agriculture in the future. Applications are available at winfield.com in the Newssection. All applications must be postmarked by Feb. 5th, 2016. Winners will be notified by mail in April 2016.

BRTC Scholarships – The deadline for scholarships has changed to March 1st, unless otherwise noted on the specific details. Also, note the slight change on the application that addresses the essay requirements. Check your email for the application.

The following are two scholarships that you may be interested in. If I can help you with these please email me or stop by.

  1. The first scholarship is “Aspiring Fashion Professional” Scholarship. This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited post-secondary school or college. Interested students can visit this link www.fashion-schools.org and find the scholarship located at the bottom of the page and click on it.
  1. The 2nd Scholarship is the “Aspiring Animation Professional” Scholarship Program. This is the 5th year we are awarding this scholarship for AnimationCareerReview.com. We are offering high school seniors the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship. This will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited post-secondary school or college. We ask that you have interested students visit our website, www.careeranimationreview.com to find eligibility information along with the online application. The scholarship will be on the right side of the page and click on it.

The deadline for both scholarships is June 1, 2016.

Nursing Schools Almanac has just launched its second annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. They will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:

+ A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics

+ A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare

This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs. Scholarship applications will be accepted until midnight on June 30, 2016.
