REMINDER:  Students when you arrive on campus DO NOT SIT IN YOUR VEHICLES. Students are to come into the building and not gather in the parking lot!

 

Cafeteria Notes: Students as you enter the Cafeteria, Please remember to pick up all necessary meal items…..Milk, Napkin, Cutlery, all food components you want, any condiments you want, before paying out through the Cashier. Please do NOT re-enter the line again after you have chosen your meal, unless you are purchasing additional items. Thank you!

 

With the upcoming construction of the new elementary school, the district is planning to do a couple of special things during construction.  One is a time-lapse video of the construction that will be able to be viewed at the completion of the project. This will be an exciting way to see the construction happen from beginning to end.

 

The second feature is a planned live stream on YouTube of the construction site, so at any time you can go and look and see real time on how the construction is progressing.  

 

In saying this, To be able to stream live on YouTube, our channel has to have a minimum of 1000 subscribers.  Currently we have 123. I would encourage all of you to subscribe, but to also have as many others that you know to subscribe as well.  We should be able to get this subscriber number past 1000 in no time. Thank you!! :)

Students are not to bring blankets to class.  Students who get cold in classes should wear a jacket or a coat.  

 

Semester Tests Schedule -

Friday, May 17 - 4th hour

Monday, May 20 - 2nd and 6th hours (Makeup tests/assignments during the 4th hour)

Tuesday, May 21 - 3rd and 7th hours (Makeup tests/assignments during the 5th hour)

Wednesday, May 22 - 1st and 5th hours (make-up tests/assignments during 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

 

The Coffee House now has 8oz. Bottles of water for 50 cents.

 

JUNIORS: Lifetouch will be sending out appointment dates and times for senior composites drape and tux pictures.  The dates they are scheduled to be on PHS campus are June 12th & 13th. Please be looking for a postcard with your day and appointment time coming in the mail in the next few weeks.

ACT SUMMER ACADEMY

If you are interested in attending the ACT Summer Academy, please sign the sheet on my office door by this Friday, May 10th.  To attend this ACT Summer Academy, you no longer have to be registered for the June ACT.  We will allow anyone in grades 9-12 who is interested to attend.

If you sign up, you are committing to attend ALL FOUR HOURS OF ALL FOUR DAYS of ACT Academy.  (You will sign in each day.)

 

Days:         Tuesday, May 28 - Friday, May 31 (4 days only)

Time:          8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. each day (1 hr sessions in each subject)

St. Bernard's is now accepting applications for this summer's Jr. Volunteer Program. The program allows students (ages 15 – 18) an opportunity to volunteer in a hospital setting where they will explore careers and gain experience in helping others. Participants will gain hands on experience in surgery, laboratory, nursing, radiology, rehabilitative services, exercise science, pharmacy and more! It will be a three-week session where we will accept 16 students into the program. The session will be held from July 12-August 2. *Remember, all High School students that are 15-18 years of age are eligible to apply. See the nurse for an application.

 

PHS Clothing closet has coats and new shoes for use… Visit the closet if you have any clothing needs and take what you need.   Please leave it organized :)

Reminder: Please remember once a student has reached 6 absences in any given class period that a parent note will not excuse that absence. After 6 absences, the only notes that excuse students are doctor notes, death or serious injury in the immediate family, an appt with government agency, participation in FFA, FHA, or 4H activities, or exceptional circumstances with prior approval of the principal/assistant principal. Please also remember excuse notes must be presented to the office within 5 days of returning to school. Notes presented more that 5 days may not be accepted. Notes should be turned into the office first thing in the morning, (for more

details see page 27/28  of the District Pupil Policies handbook.)

Eligible sophomores and juniors that register for the April, June, or July, 2019 US national test date (and opt-in to the giveaway during registration) have a chance to win. It’s just that easy! SENIORS:  NEXT STEPS FOR COLLEGE

.  * Please do NOT use your PHS student e-mail address for ACT, FAFSA, YOUniversal, college applications, etc.  You will not have access to it after you graduate.

 

  1. (ONLINE) Complete FAFSA - If you are considering going to college, you must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) form online @  https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/ (You may pick up a FAFSA ID Worksheet from Mrs. Stewart or Mrs. Hampton to record your login information. You WILL need this every year.)  

  2. (ONLINE) Complete YOUniversal Scholarship - Complete the YOUniversal Scholarship application online @ https://www.ark.org/adhe_financialaid (to qualify for the Academic Challenge Scholarship)

  3. (ONLINE) Apply to Colleges – Complete online applications as an incoming, undergraduate freshman for any potential colleges you are considering attending

(Some colleges charge an application fee.  If you receive free/reduced lunches, you may be able

to obtain a fee waiver.  See Mrs. Hampton for more information.)

  1. (COUNSELOR) Submit Transcript Request – Obtain a transcript request form (list all colleges for which you completed an online application) from Mrs. Hampton or Mrs. Stewart, and return it to Mrs. Hampton.  

(This allows your listed colleges to receive your official transcript and ACT scores. You may also

need to complete a shot-record release form with Mrs. Gholson.)

  1. (ONLINE) Check Regularly – Make sure you check your email, FAFSA account, YOUniversal account, and college application accounts for any messages or tasks that still need to be completed.  You will have to ‘accept’ financial aid awards. WATCH DEADLINES!

 

CONCURRENT CREDIT/BRTC COURSES

Online Courses through BRTC - If you wish to take an online course

through BRTC, you must have a period in your PHS schedule to complete

the course work in the computer lab/study hall.  You will be counted absent if

you do not attend that class every day, just as your other PHS classes.

 

Dual Credit Courses (on BRTC Campus) - These courses must be pre-

approved by Mrs. Hampton.  If you wish to take a course on the BRTC

campus during the school day, you must provide the days and times the

course meets and have it pre-approved by Mrs. Hampton.  If the course will

not allow you to have 6 credit-classes in your PHS schedule per day, you will

not be approved to take the course.

 

ACT INFORMATION

If you are in 11th or 12th grade and receive free or reduced lunches, see Mrs. Hampton for one

If you are planning to take a College Day, please remember you must not have exceeded the

allowable absences in a semester and you will need to get a form from the office prior to the

visit. The student must meet with the school counselor and have the form signed by the

counselor and a parent; then turn into the office the day before visit. The student must provide

written verification of the visit to the office upon returning to school.

COLLEGE/MILITARY REPRESENTATIVE VISITS

All representatives will set up in the student center during lunch  

COLLEGE SPORTS

10th-12th grade students, do you plan to play college sports? Pick up info about NCAA and

NAIA in the counselor’s office.

SCHOLARSHIPS/CONTESTS

Please join Mrs. Hampton’s Google Classroom titled Scholarships/Contests to get information

and updates about available scholarships and contests! To join, go to Google Classroom and

Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies summer program (in California) is now accepting applications for various summer residential camps/institutes in arts, humanities, science, and math for students in grades 8 and up. Hey guys! Are you 18 years old? Have you registered with Selective Service?  Selective service isn't the draft. There is no draft and hasn't been for nearly 40 years.  Selective Service is important for our country, and it's the law! It's adding your name to a database to be used only in a national emergency.  By registering, you stay eligible for college loans, job training, jobs with the government, citizenship for male immigrants, and a driver's license in most states.  It only takes 2 minutes, and you can register online at www.sss.gov.

 

St. Bernards Medical Center Babysitting Class (for students 12 years or older)

St.Bernards Medical Center is offering a fun and interactive babysitting class for students 12 years or older this summer! Select one date to come and learn the business!

  • Location: St.Bernards Health and Wellness Center, First Floor Classroom

Deadline May 31st - Congressional Youth Cabinet Program  

Eligibility Details

Students interested in serving as a member of the Congressional Youth Cabinet should:

  • Be current sophomores for the 2018-2019 school year and upcoming juniors for the 2019-2020 school year in Arkansas;

  • Currently hold at least a GPA of 2.0;

  • Possess a strong commitment to personal growth and continued success within their community; and

  • Have a reliable attendance history in school.

Senator John Boozman’s Congressional Youth Cabinet will provide selected high school students in Arkansas with an opportunity to influence the policymaking process and better understand how Congress works.

The goal of this program is to foster a lifetime commitment to civic engagement and public service. Senator Boozman feels very strongly that we should all be “givers” in our towns and cities where we live.

Friday 5/17

  • Graduation Practice is the morning of May 17th. BRING CAP & GOWN!

  • Alma Spikes walkthrough will be immediately following graduation practice.

  • Graduation is May 17th at 8:00 pm.

  • Bob Harris Photography will be at graduation to take pictures.  Forms will be available for Seniors to pick up the morning of graduation at practice!  Be sure to ask your graduate for their order form and information regarding pictures as he will go over this with them the morning of practice.

  • Semester Test 4th hour for Sophomores & Juniors

  • The following students will be out shooting videos of the seniors Friday 1st -3rd hours. They should be back on campus by 4th hour for finals: Anna Weisenbach, Sam Niswonger, Gage Guthrie, Madison Mitchell-Crismon

  • Juniors and Sophomores Library books need to be returned and fines paid TODAY!
