GENERAL NEWS

IMPORTANT REMINDER:  State law prohibits all motorists from using a cell phone while in a school zone or passing a school building when children are present.  The law prohibits both talking and texting while driving in those areas. School zones encompass each building campus and parking area as well as the road in front of and extending well beyond school building campuses.

Students, do not go to your vehicle before the bell or between classes without prior permission from Mr. McCurry, Coach Brewington or the office!  This is the last notice!

If you drive and park on campus you MUST have a current (2019-20) hang tag hanging from your mirror or visible in the front windshield. Hang tags are $3 and can be purchased in the office. If you drive multiple vehicles just be sure to transfer the hang tag to the vehicle you are in that day. Parking lot will be monitored for compliance. 

Homecoming Maids and Senior Football Players: The Maid/Escort lineup for coronation has been posted outside Ms. Hackworth’s room and on the bulletin board across from the office. This lineup is final for coronation. 

PHS NHS Induction Ceremony will be Wednesday, October 2nd at 9:00 in the High School Cafeteria!!

**Be sure your name is on the list outside Mrs. Murray/Mrs. Steimel’s room to attend.

Any student taking a date to the Homecoming Dance that does not attend Pocahontas Schools must sign up on the sign up sheet in the office. Dates must be in 9-12th grade. If your date is not in school, they MUST be under the age of 21 to attend.

Special Olympics T-Shirts are being sold through October 11th. The first event is November 1st. Please help to support these awesome athletes. 

The Health Department will be on campus on October 17th to administer flu vaccines to students and staff.  Consent forms will be sent home in your English classes next week. You may also see the nurse for consent forms.

Founder’s Day Volunteers Needed: 20-30 student volunteers and 1-3 teacher volunteers are needed to help with the kids’ zone at Founder’s Day on November 2nd. They need volunteers at various times throughout the day to help with setup around 8 a.m., working game booths during hours from 10 a.m. -5:00 p.m., and with take down around 7 p.m. (The kids’ zone is located in an alcohol-free zone.) If you would like to volunteer, please contact Deborah Kerley by October 1st at deborahk1919@yahoo.com or text at 870-202-3754.

REMINDER: Club sponsors need to turn in Homecoming parade/tailgate forms in to Ms. Hackworth if they plan on participating.

Do you play chess? The PHS chess team is looking for some additional strong, competitive players. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Kercheval at michelle.kercheval@pocahontaspsd.com .

 

Ms. Galvan’s room is available for chess practice on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during lunch. 

 

Any senior that would like to participate and help with the Project Graduation Haunted house, please sign up in Mrs. Baty’s room!!!

 

Seniors, check the list on the board across the office or in your English room for the correct spelling of your name. This is the name that will appear on your diploma. If this name is incorrect it will be incorrect on your diploma. Please contact the office for any changes.

 

Yearbooks are currently available for preorder for $35 now through October 31st. They can be ordered in room #4 or at https://www.walsworthyearbooks.com/

 

PHS booster Club is selling Kick-off Tshirts for $12.00. See Monica Brewington at MD Williams to purchase one. 

 

The Coffee House, located in the Library, has 8 oz bottled water for sale for 50 cents.

 

Do you like to watch YouTube videos? Do you like social media? Would you like to create content for your school to share with the community/city/state/world? We are creating a club for 9th-12th grade students to do just that for our school district. In this club, you can do the following: 

  1. Stream live to YouTube all home (and possibly away) sporting events. With away games, this would mean traveling. 

  2. Stream live to YouTube campus events throughout the year such as pep rallies, homecoming activities, band concerts, academic assemblies, award ceremonies, etc… 

  3. Produce and direct these events live. 

  4. Maintain our district YouTube page. Upload videos that you create. 

  5. Help create content for the school’s Facebook and Twitter pages. 

  6. Maintain a schedule of events and be responsible for setup, broadcast, and tear down.

LINK- Memberships will begin next week. Applications will be on the red table in front of Mrs. Cox’s office or you may pick one up from Mrs. Moffett. She is in charge of the Extreme Youth team, but you sign up through LINK. The cost is $5.00 per person. Tshirts and hoodies will be ordered in a different month. 

 

LINK is also selling homecoming mums, pins, and garters through Posey Patch. Examples are displayed in the Jr. High hallway next to Mrs. Cox’s office. Mum can be any size and color, as long as you are willing to pay the extra cost. The display shows standard ribbons and their cost. You may pick up an order form and pay Mrs. Cox in the Jr. high or go directly to Posey Patch to place your order. Tell them you are ordering through LINK to help us raise money. 

 

The FFA Fruit and Meat Sale Ends October 4th at 3:20 if anyone needs to order fruit or meat please see and FFA member.   

 

Anyone interested in joining teacher cadets need to come to the office and sign up between classes.

Are you a SENIOR that is interested in learning more about a career

in health care?

UAMS is excited about the upcoming program series, “A Day in the Life”.

Planning and preparation are now underway for both “A Day in the Life -

Variety and “A Day in the Life of a Nurse”.

These one-day programs are aimed at helping High School Seniors

decide on a medical career by providing information, interaction with

professionals, tours, and hands-on activities. Please let students know

because of space limitations, they may only choose one of these events.

ONLINE BULLYING REPORT FORM - Students, parents, and staff members can now complete an online bullying report form to report alleged bullying or harassment that occurred on school property; at school-sponsored activity/event off school property; on a school bus; or through social media, text messages, or email in the current school year by clicking this link or by visiting the districts website.  

Common APP - Seniors, do you want to complete only ONE application for over 900 colleges, including AState, UCA, Hendrix, U of A, Lyon, and more? Check out the Common App!

Test Prep-

1.) 2019-2020 Preparing for the ACT Test booklets - free in Mrs. Hampton's office! The booklet contains general information about the ACT tests and practice tests with answers for each subject section.

2.) Chromebook App - Before logging into a Chromebook, click on Apps at the bottom of your screen. Select Test Nav.  You may need to “select a different customer” to switch to the ACT login page. No login is needed. On the login page, click on Practice Test. There are timed and untimed practice sessions.

Photo ID - If you do not have a photo ID, see Mrs. Hampton for an ACT ID form. They will not admit you to your ACT session without your ACT test ticket AND either a photo ID or the ACT ID form.

  • Favorite Sports Day! 

  • There will be a Student Council meeting in Ms. Hackworth’s room at lunch. All Student Council members need to be present. This is an important Homecoming meeting. Bring your lunch.

  • There will be a Spanish Club meeting at 12:15 in Mrs. Inman’s room.

  • Volleyball vs Highland @ AWAY - 4:30 pm. Release all players (7th grade, Jr. High, and Sr. High) immediately following 6th hour. The bus will leave at 2:45. 

  • Golf District Tournament Blytheville CC 9 am B/G: Please excuse the following students from school on 9/24/19.  They will be participating in the District Golf Tournament in Blytheville (Jared Erwin, Skylar Prater, Logan Dunkerson, Madilyn McDowell, Mia Presley, Abigail Finney, Gracie Miller)

  • Cross Country Sloan Hendrix Meet @ Old Davidsonville @ 4:00 Please dismiss the following Cross Country members after 6th hour, Jr High: Abby Alphin, Lauren Berger, Malora Davis, Christa Doane, Emily Ozburn, Allie Reagan, Heather Thiele, Destiny Ward, Aiden Difani, and Isaiah Dory.   • FBLA will work on Homecoming Float during lunch all week. All homecoming committee members also have permission to come to Mrs. Blalock’s room anytime during the day to help with the float! 

  • Art and Drama Club will meet in Mrs. Bass’s room at lunch and after school at the fairgrounds until 4:30 on Monday-Wednesday.

  • Interact will meet during lunch all week to work on their Homecoming banner. 

Wednesday 9/25

  • Galaxy Day!

  • There will be a meeting in Ms. Hackworth’s room at lunch for all Homecoming Maids and Senior Football Players to discuss practice times for Thursday and Friday mornings. Bring your lunch. 

  • Senior Formal Retakes  will be September 25th. All seniors who have not yet taken them will do so. This is the final date for retakes. There is a $15 dollar fee. Senior pictures MUST be taken for the yearbook and the composite. Any student wanting to do retakes may do so on this date as well. Retakes are $10.

  • Chess  @ Northeast Arkansas Education Cooperative tournament 

  • Mrs. Kercheval will not be here Wednesday. There will be no GT.
