GENERAL NEWS
Tuesday, April 18th - SENIORS will meet with Mrs. Grooms and Coach Brewington in the gym at the beginning of 2nd hour.
Senior Girls Basketball team is selling State Championship items (shirts, license plates, caps, car decals. Please see any senior high girl basketball player or order forms are available in the office as well. The last day to order is April 19th.
Pocahontas Public Schools will conduct “Student Education and Graduation Program” (SEGP) conferences for students in grades seven-(7) through eleven-(11) only on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 and Thursday, April 27, 2017. On April 25th, conference times will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on April 27th conference times will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Parents of students at Pocahontas Junior High School and Pocahontas High School are encouraged to meet with their child’s advisor at the agreed upon scheduled time.
Because of the conferences, school will be dismissed early for all students, grades K-12, on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. Alma Spikes Elementary walkers will be dismissed at 1:55 p.m. and bus students at 2:10 p.m. All other students in grades 3-12 will be dismissed at 2:25 p.m. Lunches will be served.
Student Council Officer elections will be taking place on April 28, 2017. Petitions will be available in front of the Office at the High School or from Mr. Phelps in Study Hall beginning April 7,2017. These petitions are due on April 21 to Mr. Phelps by 12:00pm. You must meet the criteria listed on the petition. Information regarding Class Officers and Class Representative elections will be released at a later date. Please see Mrs. Hackworth, Mr. Phelps or Coach Brooks with any questions.
Any Junior who is interested in a career in Nutritional Science or Hospitality should see Mrs. Lynch concerning an upcoming open house for the new Programs at ASU.
Applications are being accepted for the St. Bernards Medical Center Jr. Volunteer Program. The program allows students (ages 15 – 18) an opportunity to volunteer in a hospital setting where they will explore careers and gain experience in helping others. Participants will gain hands on experience in surgery, laboratory, nursing, radiology, rehabilitative services, exercise science, pharmacy and more! It will be a three-week session where we will accept 15 students into the program. The session will be held from July 7th-28th. Applications may be picked up in the nurse's office. They are due by Friday, May 5th.
ACT Summer Academy - May 25th, 26th, 30th, 31st & June 5th - 9th… for students wishing to prepare for the June test. You MUST register for the June 10th ACT test (deadline for registration is May 5th). Once registered provide Mrs. Hogan with a copy of your ACT admission ticket.
Driver's Education Class Sign ups - Students must have a Driver's Permit in order to take the class. Only 3 seats available. First come/first serve. Must have $200.00 check (check can be dated May 25th) to place name on list and Driver's Permit. Sign up in PJHS Office. Classes will be May 25th, 26th, 30th, 31st and June 1st. (8:00 - 5:00 p.m. )
Practice for Agri Mechanics is Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 4:00 pm
DRAMA CLUB & HISTORY CLUB will meet Monday & Wednesday during lunch in Mrs. Bass’ room.
FFA members on AG Mechanics & Electricity teams meet Tuesdays & Thursdays with Mr. Hogan @ 3:30
NHS will meet every Tuesday @12:20 to discuss fundraising and activities.
CHESS CLUB will practice Wednesdays at noon in Mrs. Miller’s room at junior high.
S.W.A.T. will meet every Wednesday in Mrs. Baty’s room at lunch… Bring your lunch.
KEY CLUB will meet every Wednesday in Mr. James’ room at lunch
Please remember to be cautious at the crosswalks. Drivers please be on the lookout for students crossing as well as students being observant of the traffic. Mornings and afternoons are very hectic with heavy traffic but we all need to use caution and be observant in these areas for the safety of all.
REMINDER: Students are to sign in and out of the office when they come onto and leave campus any time other than the first bell at 7:50 a.m. Students who have classes on the BRTC campus are to sign in and out at the office according to their schedule.
REMINDER: Students are not to sit in their vehicles once they arrive on campus. Once you are parked you must exit your vehicle and come into the building.
ALL students who drive and park on our campus must have a current hang tag.
MONDAY
The current FFA Officers and FFA officer candidates will need to be released at 11:30 Monday to get ready the FFA lunch meeting.

ACT Aspire Assembly - 5th hour. We will dismiss by all call. Then students will meet with SEGP advisors following the assembly.

Congratulations to the Lady Skins for winning the Sara Lowe Relays at Batesville Friday. They have earned a spot in the state meet later this month. Ashlyn Ellis and Natalie Toney tied for high point. Great job again Ladies !!!
