-GENERAL NEWS-

The Pocahontas Redskins will be playing Shiloh Christian in the second round of the  2019-2020 football playoffs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Springdale. Only AAA passes will be accepted. Local VIP (senior citizen passes), employee passes, and student passes cannot be honored at playoff games due to the Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) sponsorship requirements. The admission price, as set by the Arkansas Activities Association, will be $6 for students and adults.

ATHLETIC PASSES: Starting with Basketball Season, students can no longer use their Fall Athletic passes to get into games.  Winter Athletic passes (green) will only be accepted. 

IMPORTANT REMINDER:  State law prohibits all motorists from using a cell phone while in a school zone or passing a school building when children are present.  The law prohibits both talking and texting while driving in those areas. School zones encompass each building campus and parking area as well as the road in front of and extending well beyond school building campuses.

The Coffee House, located in the Library, has 8 oz bottled water for sale for 50 cents.

 

The Red Cross/Pocahontas High School Blood Drive will be Wednesday, December 4th. Students who are 18 may sign up with Mrs. Steimel/Murray.  Students 17 and under must get a parent consent form signed and returned. You may pick this form up from Steimel/Murray. Each pint collected counts toward a scholarship to be given away at Senior awards night.  The scholarship will be awarded from a random drawing of seniors that make it through the prescreening process on the day of the blood drive.   

 

Starburst is coming!! We will be having STARBURST try-outs next month!! More information is to come soon!

 

GT: The GT Nutcracker trip is full. If you want your name on a waiting list in case someone cancels, contact Mrs. Kercheval. 

 

UAMS HPREP is an outreach program that provides Arkansas high school students with the opportunity to prepare for college, gain exposure to various career paths in health and interact with students, faculty and staff of this academic health center. HPREP accomplishes the mission of supporting current and future health professionals from underrepresented backgrounds. Event will be Saturday, February 22nd, 2020 from 9:00am to 4:00 pm. -SENIOR NEWS-    

 

Senior class song, motto, and flower nomination forms are now available outside the office. These forms are due by Friday, December 6th, and all song nominations must have COMPLETE lyrics attached. Please return completed forms to Mrs. Casillas or Mr. Helms.

 

The A-State trip planned for seniors on Friday has been postponed due to the playoff game.  Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Hampton are working on getting this rescheduled, and will let students know a new date as soon as possible.

Seniors, check the list on the board across the office or in your English room for the correct spelling of your name. This is the name that will appear on your diploma. If this name is incorrect it will be incorrect on your diploma. Please contact the office for any changes.

Seniors, if you have any kind of disability (learning, physical, emotional, etc.,) you may qualify for assistance through Arkansas Rehabilitation Services (ARS.)  Their mission is to prepare Arkansans with disabilities to work and lead productive and independent lives through a variety of services. Kelly Mears, a representative from ARS, will be in the counselor's office on Monday, December 2nd, to visit with any interested seniors.  Please let Mrs. Hampton know if you would like to visit with her to find out more and if you qualify

-CLUB NEWS-

A/V Club: PHS and PJHS are starting an A/V Club.  In this club you will be streaming events that happen on and off campus, sporting events, and a whole lot more.  If you are interested in joining the A/V club, please check you email or fill out this form

FBLA has adopted a family in our school district who needs our help for Christmas.  If you are an FBLA and would like to help bring items for this family, please stop by Mrs. Blalock’s room to sign up or send her an email crystal.blalock@pocahontaspsd.com  

 

FCCLA: If you would like to attend the FCCLA District 3 Leadership meeting on Thursday, December 5th please bring $5 to Mrs. Lynch by November 22 (late payments will not be accepted).

 

*Dress code will be required for this event.

*We will leave at 8 a.m. and return no later than 3:20 p.m.

*You will need money for lunch that day, we will eat in Jonesboro somewhere.

 

Permissions slips can be picked up from Mrs. Bradley or Mrs. Lynch at anytime so just drop by.

 

If you are wanting to help with the FFA Christmas parade float, please check with Mr. Washburn. 

 

The FFA chapter will be conducting a holiday community service project. Check with Mr. Washburn for details.

ONLINE BULLYING REPORT FORM - Students, parents, and staff members can now complete an online bullying report form to report alleged bullying or harassment that occurred on school property; at school-sponsored activity/event off school property; on a school bus; or through social media, text messages, or email in the current school year by clicking this link or by visiting the districts website.

COLLEGE & MILITARY REPRESENTATIVES VISITS 

All visiting reps will set up a table in the student center during lunch (11:45-12:27) on the appointed date.

Mrs. Stewart’s Career Coach Google Classroom has been updated with current  opportunities and scholarships. Check your class folder to see what is offered for your current grade. These will be updated on a regular basis.

DEADLINE: DECEMBER 20th - Spring BRTC concurrent credit applications are in the counselor's office.  All applications must be returned to Mrs. Hampton by Friday, December 20th.  

- Remember, Jr.'s & Sr's can get up to 2 (3 credit) concurrent credit courses covered each semester by the Concurrent Challenge Scholarship at BRTC. (This is completely different than (and will not affect) the AR Academic Challenge Scholarship.  

- If you receive free or reduced lunches, you could also get up to 6 credits covered by the school district.  Ask Mrs. Hampton about this!

Fee waiver- If you receive free or reduced lunches, see Mrs. Hampton! You can get a waiver for two different tests!

Registration- Register @ actstudent.org. See Mrs. Hampton or Mrs. Stewart if you need help registering. 

 

Test Prep-

1.) 2019-2020 Preparing for the ACT Test booklets - free in Mrs. Hampton's office! The booklet contains general information about the ACT tests and practice tests with answers for each subject section.

2.) Chromebook App - Before logging into a Chromebook, click on Apps at the bottom of your screen. Select Test Nav.  You may need to “select a different customer” to switch to the ACT login page. No login is needed. On the login page, click on Practice Test. There are timed and untimed practice sessions.

Photo ID - If you do not have a photo ID, see Mrs. Hampton for an ACT ID form. They will not admit you to your ACT session without your ACT test ticket AND either a photo ID or the ACT ID form.

Dec 6 Josten's will return Friday, December 6th to take orders for Letter Jackets.  Payment is due in full on order day. Order forms are available in the office.  Josten's will bring a jacket of each size on order day for sizing.
