Semester Test Schedule

Pocahontas Public Schools will be closed for the Christmas Holiday, Monday, December 23, 2019 through Friday, January 3, 2020. The district will conduct its regular schedule on Friday, December 20, 2019. Pocahontas Public Schools will re-open on Monday, January 6, 2020.  

ATHLETIC PASSES: Starting with Basketball Season, students can no longer use their Fall Athletic passes to get into games.  Winter Athletic passes (green) will only be accepted. 

IMPORTANT REMINDER:  State law prohibits all motorists from using a cell phone while in a school zone or passing a school building when children are present.  The law prohibits both talking and texting while driving in those areas. School zones encompass each building campus and parking area as well as the road in front of and extending well beyond school building campuses.

The Coffee House, located in the Library, has 8 oz bottled water for sale for 50 cents.

 

UAMS HPREP is an outreach program that provides Arkansas high school students with the opportunity to prepare for college, gain exposure to various career paths in health and interact with students, faculty and staff of this academic health center. HPREP accomplishes the mission of supporting current and future health professionals from underrepresented backgrounds. Event will be Saturday, February 22nd, 2020 from 9:00am to 4:00 pm. Christmas Roll Sale - Pocahontas Child Nutrition Chapter 1L 

Rolls will be ready for pick up on December 18th. Please pick up rolls no later than 2 pm unless other arrangements are made.   

Hot Rolls-$4.00 a dozen or 2 dozen for $7.00

Wheat Rolls-$5.00 a dozen or 2 dozen for $8.00

Cinnamon Rolls-$5.00 a dozen or 2 dozen for $8.00

Extra Cinnamon Roll Icing - $1.00 a bag

White and Wheat rolls come frozen (heat and serve). The cinnamon rolls come uncooked and frozen.

Girls Go CyberStart Initiative - Registration Open

Open to female high school students, the Girls Go CyberStart initiative encourages participants to explore their interests in cyber studies, learn core cybersecurity skills, and build confidence in problem-solving.

Girls Go CyberStart is a free, online game open to all female students in grades 9 through 12, regardless of their prior knowledge or experience with cybersecurity and information technology. Playing alone or on teams, participants solve challenges to gain points and advance through levels, earning prizes along the way. In addition to individual prizes, such as trips, gift certificates, and computers, the three in-state schools with the most participants win monetary prizes.

-SENIOR NEWS-    

PROJECT GRADUATION:  Students who want to submit an awesome t-shirt design for seniors should see Mrs. Steimel.  Designs should be submitted by Christmas break!!

 

 

Seniors are needed to sit at basketball games and sell 50/50 tickets- 2 to 3 students are needed at each game. Sign up sheets are on Mrs. Baty's door.

Seniors, check the list on the board across the office or in your English room for the correct spelling of your name. This is the name that will appear on your diploma. If this name is incorrect it will be incorrect on your diploma. Please contact the office for any changes.

 

There will be a Project Graduation meeting for ALL seniors Monday, December 16th at noon in study hall. Please try to attend!!!

Seniors, if you have any kind of disability (learning, physical, emotional, etc.,) you may qualify for assistance through Arkansas Rehabilitation Services (ARS.)  Their mission is to prepare Arkansans with disabilities to work and lead productive and independent lives through a variety of services. Please let Mrs. Hampton know if you would like to visit with her to find out more and if you qualify.

Project Graduation is organized by the parents and the students of the graduating class. If you plan to graduate in May of 2020, we encourage you to participate by attending some or all meetings and events. You will receive incentive points.

 

Next Project Graduation Meeting is Thursday, January  9th @ 5:30 Study Hall. 

 

Project Graduation is selling tickets for a recliner that was donated by Dawson Furniture. Tickets cost is 1 for $5 or 10 for $20. Seniors and or parents, please contact Angie Capps (870-378-0564) or Heather Akins (870-378-3044), if you would like to sell some tickets.

 

Project Graduation will be hosting a concert by Zack DeClerk & Emily Weisenbach at BRTC on March 7th, 2020. Ticket sales will start  in January.

 

 

-CLUB NEWS-

NHS:  We still have 10 spots open for our Christmas Family!! NHS members should look over the list by Mrs Steimel's classroom and sign up to bring a gift if possible.  You will be invited to a Pizza Party next Wednesday, December 18th if you bring a gift.

A/V Club: PHS and PJHS are starting an A/V Club.  In this club you will be streaming events that happen on and off campus, sporting events, and a whole lot more.  If you are interested in joining the A/V club, please check you email or fill out this form

FCCLA: If you’re an FCCLA member and plan to attend the Tuesday, December 17th Christmas party 11:30-12:25 please RSVP (on here, please) by Friday, December 13th so Mrs Lynch and I know how many we are cooking for. 

You’re more than welcome to wear an ugly sweater if you’d like but it’s not required. You’re more than welcome to bring a family favorite (or just your favorite) holiday snack, dessert, candy, etc to share if you’d like but again it’s not required if you RSVP. We just want to have fun as a group!

FFA: Any FFA members that are Seniors the National FFA Scholarship Application is now open and will need to be completed by January 6th, 2020.

 

The FFA chapter will be conducting a holiday community service project. Check with Mr. Washburn for details.

NHS PLEASE sign up to bring a gift for our Christmas family ASAP by writing your initials by the gift you plan to bring... We need these completed and gifts should be brought to Mrs. Steimel's room by Monday, December 16th!! Wrapping Party for those who bring gifts will be Wednesday, December 18th... Pizza and drinks will be provided!

NHS would like to thank all students who participated in the blood drive.  It is an act of kindness and humanity to give the "gift of life"! We totaled 37 pints which allows for a $250 scholarship to a lucky senior!

ONLINE BULLYING REPORT FORM - Students, parents, and staff members can now complete an online bullying report form to report alleged bullying or harassment that occurred on school property; at school-sponsored activity/event off school property; on a school bus; or through social media, text messages, or email in the current school year by clicking this link or by visiting the districts website.  

Common APP - Seniors, do you want to complete only ONE application for over 900 colleges, including AState, UCA, Hendrix, U of A, Lyon, and more? Check out the Common App!

COLLEGE & MILITARY REPRESENTATIVES VISITS

Mrs. Stewart’s Career Coach Google Classroom has been updated with current  opportunities and scholarships. Check your class folder to see what is offered for your current grade. These will be updated on a regular basis.

Fee waiver- If you receive free or reduced lunches, see Mrs. Hampton! You can get a waiver for two different tests!

DEADLINE: DECEMBER 20th - Spring BRTC concurrent credit applications are in the counselor's office.  All applications must be returned to Mrs. Hampton by Friday, December 20th.  

- Remember, Jr.'s & Sr's can get up to 2 (3 credit) concurrent credit courses covered each semester by the Concurrent Challenge Scholarship at BRTC. (This is completely different than (and will not affect) the AR Academic Challenge Scholarship.  

- If you receive free or reduced lunches, you could also get up to 6 credits covered by the school district.  Ask Mrs. Hampton about this!

 

Test Prep-

1.) 2019-2020 Preparing for the ACT Test booklets - free in Mrs. Hampton's office! The booklet contains general information about the ACT tests and practice tests with answers for each subject section.

2.) Chromebook App - Before logging into a Chromebook, click on Apps at the bottom of your screen. Select Test Nav.  You may need to “select a different customer” to switch to the ACT login page. No login is needed. On the login page, click on Practice Test. There are timed and untimed practice sessions.

Photo ID - If you do not have a photo ID, see Mrs. Hampton for an ACT ID form. They will not admit you to your ACT session without your ACT test ticket AND either a photo ID or the ACT ID form.
