-GENERAL NEWS-

In an effort to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus within our staff and student body we are asking all parents/guardians, and all employees to notify our designated Point of Contact immediately when the following occurs: 

  • Someone in the household has tested positive for COVID-19.

  • Someone in the household has been identified as a Close Contact to a positive case of COVID-19 and is requiring quarantine and/or recommended to be tested for COVID-19.

  • Student attending on-site and employees who are being tested for COVID-19.  If symptomatic, student/staff should remain in quarantine pending results of their COVID-19 test.

ATTENTION SENIORS: Any seniors who had composites taken in the Summer and are wanting to have retakes made need to e-mail whitney.crutcher@pocahontaspsd.com by the end of the day Monday (9/28) to reserve a spot. We cannot take walk-ins due to COVID-19. The spots are limited and are offered on a first come, first serve basis, based on when e-mails are received.  If you did not have your composite made in the Summer, check your e-mail for your scheduled time and respond to confirm. 

Anyone interested in joining the high school swim team, please join our google classroom 4uycinw.  There are swim folders you can pick up in the office for more information.  Practice will begin in October and our competitive season is from November through February.  Questions?  email sara.frazier@pocahontaspsd.com

Just a reminder: We cannot accept outside deliveries (flowers/gifts). Lunch/food deliveries are also not allowed.  Students who normally bring lunch will be required to eat in the cafeteria should they forget their lunch. There is a doorbell on the front door in which we will interact with parents, counselors, visitors, etc since we cannot allow you into the building. 

2020 Yearbook Pick-Up

Class of 2020 seniors, virtual students, on-campus students who did not pick up yearbooks can email whitney.crutcher@pocahontaspsd.com. She will pull your yearbook and make an appointment to pick it up between 12-12:30 on an agreed upon date.  You can also give  permission to give your yearbook to a sibling, friend, etc.  Please note that yearbook staff is not responsible for the condition of the book upon delivery if this option is chosen.   

Further announcements will be made later on the sales of extra copies. 

2021 Yearbooks on Sale-  $35 now through October. Prices will increase to $45 throughout the year.  Purchase online at yearbookforever.com or at school with cash/check payable to Pocahontas High School.  See Ms. Crutcher in Room #4. 

STUDENT MEALS FREE OF CHARGE!  As of Sept. 8th through Dec. 31st, 2020. This applies to both breakfast and lunch.  

Student Parking:

~~If you drive and park on campus, you should have a parking hang tag.  $3.00 to purchase

~~Park only in your class designated area.  If you’re not sure where that is… ask the office. 

~~Do not back into parking spots- You must pull through.

~~Once you arrive on campus, you are not to sit in your vehicle.  You need to exit your vehicle and come into the building.  

VIRTUAL STUDENT PARKING:  If you come onto campus during the school day for athletics or band, you need a parking pass.  You also are to park on the high school campus and not at the junior high.  

Please remember that you should not have headphones in/on while in the hallways.  They should only be out when allowed in class.

After school tutoring will begin September 1st. Tutoring will be held from 3:30-4:30. Math will be on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and all other subjects will be on Wednesday. There will be a virtual tutoring option through google meet for virtual students. On campus students will be expected to attend in-person tutoring. Any student who is currently interested in tutoring, or thinks they will be interested at any time throughout the year, should join the PHS Math Tutoring google classroom, using code 3dwagss and the PHS Literacy Tutoring google classroom using code wycakwu. Any virtual students interested in tutoring must join the google classroom to have access to the meet codes. Just like your regular classes, tutoring will have a different meet code each day. FFA Officer Elections will take place Wednesday September 30th from 8:05-3:20.  All FFA Members are allowed to vote.  You must vote on the Pocahontas FFA Google Classroom.  If you need a code ple ask Mr. Washburn or Mr. James.

FFA members please sign up for an Leadership Development Event by Wednesday September 30th.

Fall Senior Night will be done on two different nights to honor our Seniors! 

October 30th- Cheer, Cross Country, Golf, Tennis and Volleyball Seniors.

Seniors- check the list on the board across the office or in your English room for the correct spelling of your name. This is the name that will appear on your diploma. If this name is incorrect it will be incorrect on your diploma. Please contact the office for any changes.

Arkansas Paying for College Webinar  Wednesday, October 7, 2020  6:00 PM CST

Arkansas high school seniors and parents are invited to attend a free webinar, hosted by Sallie Mae and the Arkansas Division of Higher Education, entitled Paying for College. 

This webinar will cover federal financial aid, state awards, scholarships, tips for completing the FAFSA, and other options to consider in how to pay for college.     

 

To send transcripts/test scores when applying for college complete the PHS Transcript/Scores Release Request in Google Drive.  Fill out information completely and Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Hampton will send the documents for you.  See the School Record Release attachment from Mrs. Stewart to get your shot records sent as well.

  • These tests are taken at an off-site (most PHS students choose to take it at BRTC) on various dates.

  • All 11th grade students will have the opportunity to take a free ACT test in February of their junior year at the high school.  Juniors do NOT have to register for this test!

  • Students in the 11th or 12th grade who qualify for free and/or reduced lunches, may receive an ACT Fee Waiver code! Email stephanie.hampton@pocahontaspsd.com  to receive a waiver code
