GENERAL NEWS

PHS National Honor Society will sponsor a Coat Drive for the Clothing Closet November 27th-December 15th.  Please take coats to Mrs. Steimel's room.

Semester Test Schedules:

Thursday, Dec. 14 -Tests for Periods 6 and 7.

Friday, Dec. 15 - Tests for Periods 3, 4, and 5 -  make-ups .... tests for 6th and 7th periods - and any missing assignments or incomplete work

Monday, Dec. 18 - Tests for Periods 1 and 2 -  make-ups .... tests for 3rd, 4th, and 5th periods - and any missing assignments or incomplete work

The Clothing Closet is now up and running.  We have lots of items to choose from so if you need anything please see Mrs. Steimel

Tutoring has begun: Literacy with Mrs. Bass (includes all other areas) on Tuesday and Thursday each week. Tutoring is after school from 3:30-4:30.

Math Tutoring 3:30-4:30 Tuesday-Thursday of each week!

Murray: Monday & Thursday *****  Helms: Tuesday & Thursday *****  Steimel: Wednesday & Thursday

REMINDER to Students & Staff:  If students arrive on campus after the tardy bell at 8:00 a.m. they are to check in at the office.  Students should have a tardy slip/pass from the office if they come into class after the bell; if not send them to the office to sign in.

***Please remember to use caution when walking to and from buildings.  Students should use the crosswalks especially of the mornings and the afternoons when traffic is the busiest.  Drivers please use caution and be aware of students walking around campus.

CLUB NEWS

FBLA: Please check your email weekly for upcoming events and important dates.  We have adopted 2 families this year for Christmas.  Please come by the Business Building and sign up to bring an item.  Anyone who brings an item will be invited to a Pizza Party during lunch the week before Christmas Break!

LINK meetings are every Monday in Mrs. Moffett's room from 12:10-12:30. Contact Mrs.Cox for more details.

S.W.A.T. will meet on every Tuesday in Mrs. Baty's room.  Everyone is invited.  You can bring your lunch.

Key Club  meets every Wednesday in Mr. James Room (#19)

Anyone interested in Blacksmithing and metal art the FFA has a meeting at lunch each Wednesday, bring your lunch to Mr. Hogan's Classroom

NHS meetings are every Thursday during lunch at 12:15 in Mrs. Murray's room for officers and committee members only.  ALL members will meet the first Thursday of each month (same time & place).  Role is taken at each meeting and members must participate.

SENIOR NEWS

Seniors remember to check your email often for news and updates pertinent to you.

REMINDER:  If you are taking a College Day you must get a form from the office and have it signed by Mrs. Hogan and a parent. The form must be turned into the office prior to the day of your visit.  You also must bring back a note from your college day for verification.

Senior Yearbook Info:

***Pictures and Write-Ups for Senior Ads are Due January 5th.  Ads can be purchased through Ms. Crutcher (Rm 4), any yearbook staffer, through the ReplayIt App or www.jostensadservices.com

***Senior Pictures are Due January 8th, 2018.  Seniors may submit a senior picture or use their composite.

Remember as you are applying to attend post-secondary schools you must complete a PHS Transcript and Records Release Form to schools you are considering.  Mrs. Hogan has attached this document and sent to your email account.

Important information in your email  regarding A-State and ACT scores for consideration of admission and consideration for institutional scholarships.

Scholarship Registration from the Thea Foundation is open.  See your email for details.

The ACCUPLACER will be given to seniors that would like to raise their college placement score. This will not be the only date the test will be given, however you are encouraged to sign up for this date as we will take the first 15 students. To register to take the test simply reply by marking "yes". By raising scores students can qualify for the Arkansas Challenge Scholarship and prevent college remediation. Testing will be  Tuesday, December 5th in the PHS Library from 8 - 10 a.m.  As of 11/2 there are 2 seats left.  Please reply to the invitation in your calendar.

UCA Bear Facts Day - Friday, December 8th & Saturday, January 27th.  Register online today UCA.EDU/ADMISSIONS/BEAR-FACTS-DAY.

ACT Student Champion Award - applications can be found at www.act.org/readinesschampions and are due December 31, 2017.  Questions directed to ccrc@act.org.

NHS Scholarship program opens October 6th… application deadline is January 30, 2018.  

Ready, Set, Graduate is set to take place at BRTC on March 16th.  All seniors are invited to attend

Josten’s will be here around 9:00 to deliver class rings!!!  To pay or check balance call 1-800-567-8367.  Checks will not be accepted on delivery day.

SEGP advisors will meet with students in their classrooms 2nd period.

***Mrs. Sullinger will meet with her SEGP students in her room at during 2nd.  In the ART room at junior high in the band hallway.

All students going with Mr Hogan to the welding expo need to turn in their permission slips TODAY..

Teacher Cadets check Google Classroom for observation date/period.....you will be observing on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. We will meet as a group next Monday so Check Google Classroom for info.

LINK members must pick up a permission slip in Mrs. Moffett’s room at lunch TODAY.  These are for the field trip on December 19th.

UPCOMING EVENTS

December 11th - PJHS and PHS Combined Choir Christmas Concert

December 11th - 15th - Ugly Christmas Apparel Week!  Let’s spread the Christmas cheer this week and round out the year on a fun note!  (Dress code still applies)

December 12th - FFA Christmas party will be from 5-7 p.m.  FFA members are encouraged to sign up to bring a side item in Mr. Washburn’s room.

December 13th - The FFA Sub-Area Leadership Contest will be held at the Pocahontas Jr. High School  at 4 PM

December 14th - FFA Application Night starting at 5-5:30 to fill out scholarship applications in the agri building. State Farmer Degree and Proficiency Applications for state level starting at 5:30-6:30 in the agri building.  Seniors that are FFA members are encouraged to attend.

December 20th - January 2nd - Christmas Break

Dec 29-30 There will be a FREE Hunter's Education Course in Pocahontas December 29th from 5 pm to 9 pm and December 30th from noon to 6 pm. You MUST come to BOTH days.
