-GENERAL NEWS-

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - The end of the first 9 weeks will be next Friday, October 23rd and the office will need to be made aware of any changes in regards to onsite or virtual for the 2nd nine weeks.  Please make any changes by noon on Friday, October 23rd.  

~~~If you are an onsite student and plan to continue onsite, you do not need to do anything.  

~~~If you are currently an office approved virtual student and are going to remain virtual, you do      not need to do anything.

~~~If you are virtual and want to return to onsite, please email dianna.johnson@pocahontaspsd.com or call the office 870-892-4573 ext 4002. 

~~~If you onsite and wish to go virtual, you must have a parent call the office  at 870-892-4573 ext. 4002 so that we can discuss the expectations of a virtual student in regards to attendance, grades and internet access.  

Please remember these changes need to be made by noon on 10/23 and are for the duration of the 2nd nine weeks (10/26 - 12/18).  It is important to note that a student must be office approved to be virtual and students cannot be onsite and decide to "take a virtual day".  

2020 Chieftain Yearbooks will be available starting 10/5 for this year's juniors and seniors.  Books can be reserved by completing the form attached. They will be distributed during lunch next week. https://docs.google.com/forms/...             Cash or check only.  

Class of 2020 seniors, virtual students, on-campus students who did not pick up yearbooks can email whitney.crutcher@pocahontaspsd.com and arrange a time to pick it up. 

2021 Yearbooks on Sale-  $35 now through October. Prices will increase to $45 throughout the year.  Purchase online at yearbookforever.com or at school with cash/check payable to Pocahontas High School.  See Ms. Crutcher in Room #4. 

Don’t forget your mask! Students are provided 3 masks by the school.  One was distributed in red folders.  Students have two more masks they can get from the office as they are needed.  Students should provide their own mask, however, disposable masks are available for the occasions one is forgotten.  

Students: Please remember that you need to sign in at the office if you arrive after the 8:00 a.m. tardy bell and you must always sign out in the office if you check out before the end of the day! 

STUDENT MEALS FREE OF CHARGE!  Sept. 8th - Dec. 31st, 2020. This applies to both breakfast and lunch.  

Just a reminder: We cannot accept outside deliveries (flowers/gifts). Lunch/food deliveries are also not allowed.  Students who normally bring lunch will be required to eat in the cafeteria should they forget their lunch. There is a doorbell on the front door in which we will interact with parents, counselors, visitors, etc since we cannot allow you into the building. 

Student Parking:

~~If you drive and park on campus, you should have a parking hang tag.  $3.00 to purchase

~~Park only in your class designated area.  If you’re not sure where that is… ask the office. 

~~Do not back into parking spots- You must pull through.

~~Once you arrive on campus, you are not to sit in your vehicle.  You need to exit your vehicle and come into the building.  

Virtual Student Parking:

~~If you come onto campus during the school day for athletics or band, you need a parking pass.  You also are to park on the high school campus and not at the junior high.  

Please remember that you should not have headphones in/on while in the hallways.  They should only be out when allowed in class.

After school tutoring will be held from 3:30-4:30. Math will be on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and all other subjects will be on Wednesday. There will be a virtual tutoring option through google meet for virtual students. On campus students will be expected to attend in-person tutoring. Any student who is currently interested in tutoring, or thinks they will be interested at any time throughout the year, should join the PHS Math Tutoring google classroom, using code 3dwagss and the PHS Literacy Tutoring google classroom using code wycakwu. Any virtual students interested in tutoring must join the google classroom to have access to the meet codes. Just like your regular classes, tutoring will have a different meet code each day. In an effort to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus within our staff and student body we are asking all parents/guardians, and all employees to notify our designated Point of Contact immediately when the following occurs: 

  • Someone in the household has tested positive for COVID-19.

  • Someone in the household has been identified as a Close Contact to a positive case of COVID-19 and is requiring quarantine and/or recommended to be tested for COVID-19.

  • Student attending on-site and employees who are being tested for COVID-19.  If symptomatic, student/staff should remain in quarantine pending results of their COVID-19 test.

Friday 10/16

Coronation practice will be on the football field @ 8:00 am sharp!   All maids and football players need to be excused for practice until 10:30. 

Color Guard members are released 3rd & 4th periods for homecoming preparation.  

Cheerleaders are released 4th, 5th & 6th periods for homecoming preparation. 

(Lists have been emailed to teachers but students need to be sure to follow up with teachers for classes they are missing today.)

DON’T FORGET !!! Vouchers for the Region Marching Competition will be handed out at the Band Room for the performance on Monday, 10/19 @ 4:30. This is a FREE event for staff, students and the community. 

  The following are the guidelines for tonight’s coronation and game:

-A voucher is needed to enter for coronation or the football game. 

-One voucher is good for one entrance fee - $4 for adults and $3 for students.

-Upon entrance into the stadium, a voucher must be presented and taken by the gate worker. (You will not keep your voucher.)

-Coronation begins at 6:20 p.m. at Schoonover Stadium.

-Redskin Football will begin at 7:00 p.m.

-If someone has a voucher and plans to attend coronation only, they will give the gate worker their voucher and pay. Then they may exit after the coronation ceremony. As they exit, they may receive a voucher to give to someone who is wanting to attend the football game. The person receiving the voucher would still have to pay upon entering the stadium. 

-No Re-entry without a voucher and without paying.

-Please remember to bring all items that you will need, during the coronation or the game, as you enter the stadium. (Stadium seats, blankets, coats, cameras, etc.) No leaving and re-entry without a voucher and without paying.

Coronation will be on the football field as the PRE-GAME beginning @ 6:20.  Maids and players will walk out on the field and the Homecoming Queen will be announced and crowned during that time.  Following crowning the Queen and maids will be seated on the track.  The coronation will also be livestreamed for those not able to attend the game.

~~Seniors check the list on the board across the office or in your English room for the correct spelling of your name. This is the name that will appear on your diploma. If this name is incorrect it will be incorrect on your diploma. Please contact the office for any changes.  

~~Seniors to send transcripts/test scores when applying for college complete the PHS Transcript/Scores Release Request in Google Drive.  Fill out information completely and Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Hampton will send the documents for you.  See the School Record Release attachment from Mrs. Stewart to get your shot records sent as well.

  • These tests are taken at an off-site location (most PHS students choose to take it at BRTC) on various dates.

  • All 11th grade students will have the opportunity to take a free ACT test in February of their junior year at the high school.  Juniors do NOT have to register for this test!

  • Students in the 11th or 12th grade who qualify for free and/or reduced lunches, may receive an ACT Fee Waiver code! Email stephanie.hampton@pocahontaspsd.com  to receive a waiver code
