STUDENT MEALS FREE OF CHARGE!  Update: Now through the end of the school year May 2021!  (Breakfast and Lunch).  However, there is a charge for extra milk or extra ala carte items. 

-GENERAL NEWS-

Students please remember in the morning before school you are only to be in the front of the building or in the cafeteria.  At 7:40, students are to go to their classes and are not to be gathering in other areas on campus. 

3rd Nine Weeks Learning:  Please remember to make changes in your learning status you must notify the office prior to change.  Third nine week classes will begin on January 11th.

~~~If you are onsite and wish to go virtual, a parent must call the office  at 870-892-4573 ext. 4002 so that we can discuss the expectations of a virtual student in regards to attendance, grades and internet access.  

Students: Please remember that you need to sign in at the office if you arrive after the 8:00 a.m. tardy bell and you must ALWAYS sign out in the office if you check out before the end of the day!

2021 Yearbooks on Sale-  pre-order for $40.00 now through January 31st.   Purchase online at walsworthyearbook.com or at school with cash/check payable to Pocahontas High School.  See Ms. Crutcher in Room #4. 

Don’t forget your mask! Students are provided 3 masks by the school.  One was distributed in red folders.  Students have two more masks they can get from the office as they are needed.  Students should provide their own mask, however, disposable masks are available for the occasions one is forgotten.  

In an effort to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus within our staff and student body we are asking all parents/guardians, and all employees to notify our designated Point of Contact immediately when the following occurs: 

  • Someone in the household has tested positive for COVID-19.

  • Someone in the household has been identified as a Close Contact to a positive case of COVID-19 and is requiring quarantine and/or recommended to be tested for COVID-19.

  • Student attending on-site and employees who are being tested for COVID-19.  If symptomatic, student/staff should remain in quarantine pending results of their COVID-19 test.

ATTENTION:  If you are under quarantine or test positive for Covid, you may not attend any school events on campus.

Just a reminder: We cannot accept outside deliveries (flowers/gifts). Lunch/food deliveries are also not allowed.  Students who normally bring lunch will be required to eat in the cafeteria should they forget their lunch. There is a doorbell on the front door in which we will interact with parents, counselors, visitors, etc since we cannot allow you into the building. 

Students please remember only water in clear plastic bottles are allowed in classrooms.  No other drinks are allowed. 

Student Parking:

~~If you drive and park on campus, you should have a parking hang tag.  $3.00 to purchase

~~Park only in your class designated area.  If you’re not sure where that is… ask the office. 

~~Do not back into parking spots- You must pull through.

~~Once you arrive on campus, you are not to sit in your vehicle.  You need to exit your vehicle and come into the building.  

Virtual Student Parking:

~~If you come onto campus during the school day for athletics or band, you need a parking pass.  You also are to park on the high school campus and not at the junior high.  

After school tutoring will be held from 3:30-4:30. Math will be on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and all other subjects will be on Wednesday. There will be a virtual tutoring option through google meet for virtual students. On campus students will be expected to attend in-person tutoring. Any student who is currently interested in tutoring, or thinks they will be interested at any time throughout the year, should join the PHS Math Tutoring google classroom, using code 3dwagss and the PHS Literacy Tutoring google classroom using code wycakwu. Any virtual students interested in tutoring must join the google classroom to have access to the meet codes. Just like your regular classes, tutoring will have a different meet code each day. -DAILY NEWS-

Any 9th-12th grade boy who wants to play baseball should notify Coach Eddington via email at dustin.eddington@pocahontaspsd.com.

JUNIORS -  You are needed to join Google classroom ASAP and sign up for concession stand duty!  If you want to work on Prom this is the only way you will be excused to do so!  Onsite and virtual students can sign up at any time to help!

ATHLETIC PASSES:  Red athletic passes (fall sport) are not valid for winter sports admission.  Only white athletic passes will be accepted at the gate for free admission.  You must participate in a winter sport in order to receive a winter athletic pass. 

STUDENT PARKING:  Due to the low volume of students parking on campus, sophomores can now park in junior parking (the parking lot beside the business building.)

  • 12/14 Monday: Candy Cane Day- Wear red and white

  • 12/15 Tuesday: Santa's Helper Day- Dress as an elf or a reindeer

  • 12/16 Wednesday: Grinch in Whoville: Dress as the Grinch, Max(the dog), or a Whoville resident

  • 12/17 Thursday: Ugly Christmas Sweater Day

  • 12/18 Friday:  Dress as Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, Snowman, Christmas Tree, A Christmas Ornament, or Christmas Boxed/Wrapped gift.

 

You can also dress in Christmas attire including Christmas hats/headwear if you do not want to dress according to the day.

CHESS CLUB:  Mrs. Kercheval is looking for those of you who would be interested in playing chess this year. The platform for tournaments will be primarily online through chess.com. That will be the way we practice, as well. Practice will be Thursday afternoons after school. 

If you are a good chess player and want to play competitively, let her know! If you are a beginner and want to improve, we would love to have you as well! 

-SENIOR NEWS-

Local Scholarship applications have been sent to your email by Mrs. Hampton and are due no later than Friday, January 22nd!    

 

~~Seniors check the list on the board across the office or in your English room for the correct spelling of your name. This is the name that will appear on your diploma. If this name is incorrect it will be incorrect on your diploma. Please contact the office for any changes.  

~~Seniors to send transcripts/test scores when applying for college, complete this PHS Transcript/Scores Release Request in Google Drive.  Fill out information completely and Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Hampton will send the documents for you.  See the Shot Record Release Form attachment from Mrs. Stewart to get your shot records sent as well. Return shot record release forms to tracy.gholson@pochahontaspsd.com or the PHS nurse's office.

  • These tests are taken at an off-site location (most PHS students choose to take it at BRTC) on various dates.

  • All 11th grade students will have the opportunity to take a free ACT test in February of their junior year at the high school.  Juniors do NOT have to register for this test!

  • Students in the 11th or 12th grade who qualify for free and/or reduced lunches, may receive an ACT Fee Waiver code! Students, request an ACT waiver code here.

Pocahontas Girls and Boys Basketball Voucher Information

Pocahontas Redskin Basketball Season is upon us and as all are aware, with Covid guidelines and restrictions, our seating capacity is very limited. 

There will be approximately 120 General Admission vouchers available for each of the 7th grade, Junior High and Senior High girls and boys basketball home games.  Each game will have an individual voucher.  If you wish to attend multiple games you must have a voucher for each of them.  The gym will be emptied at the conclusion of each game before spectators for the following game are allowed to enter.  If you have multiple vouchers you will exit and re-enter each time.  Cost to enter the gym with a valid voucher is $2.00 per game.  All general admission vouchers for girls and boys home games must be picked up the day prior to the Home game.  Vouchers can be picked up from the Basketball Coaches office between the hours of 8:00-9:45 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m.  There will be a maximum of FOUR general admission vouchers per person given. 

There will be 50 Student vouchers available for each of the 7th grade, Junior High, and Senior High girls and boys basketball home games. Each game will have an individual voucher.  If you wish to attend multiple games you must have a voucher for each of them.  The gym will be emptied at the conclusion of each game before spectators for the following game are allowed to enter.  If you have multiple vouchers you will exit and re-enter each time. Cost to enter the gym with a valid voucher is $2.00 per game.  All student vouchers for girls and boys home games can be picked up from the Basketball Coaches office the day prior to the home game between 7:00-7:45 a.m.  Each student will be allowed ONE student voucher per game.  Senior high students will be given priority for student vouchers up until 12:00 p.m. on the day of the game.  At that time they will be available to Junior High students. 

Pocahontas School District staff members may pick up vouchers in the Basketball coaches office the day prior to the home game, between 7:00-7:45 a.m.

ALL PASSES… school employee passes, AAA passes, student athletic passes, and senior citizen passes will require a voucher. 

All home basketball games will be Live Streamed via PSD-TV.  All remaining vouchers will be at the gate.  

Vouchers for AWAY basketball games will be announced as available.
