Senior Quote Deadline: November 1st (a google form will be sent out later)

  • Quarter page - $90

  • Eighth page - $60

Reminder: Please remember once a student has reached 6 absences in any given class period that a parent note will not excuse that absence. After 6 absences, the only notes that excuse students are doctor notes, death or serious injury in the immediate family, an appt with government agency, participation in FFA, FHA, or 4H activities, or exceptional circumstances with prior approval of the principal/assistant principal. Please also remember excuse notes must be presented to the office within 5 days of returning to school. Notes presented more that 5 days may not be accepted. Notes should be turned into the office first thing in the morning, (for more details see page 27/28  of the District Pupil Policies handbook.)

Smoke Signal - The Pocahontas High School Smoke Signal website is now up and running!  Be sure to check out the September Edition online at https://phssmokesignal.wixsite.com/eedition

All students who are interested in a career in Education may join the Teacher Cadet program. The program provides the opportunity for students to observe in classrooms and learn more about teaching or coaching. There is a list in the office for those interested to sign up by Tuesday, October 2.

If you are planning on taking a College Day, please remember you must not have exceeded the allowable absences in a semester and you will need to get a form from the office prior to the visit. The student must meet with the school counselor and have the form signed by the counselor and a parent; then turn into the office the day before visit. The student must provide written verification of the visit to the office upon returning to school.

Randolph County Chamber of Commerce Student Ambassador Program applications are now available in the PHS Office. This program seeks to reach out to those youth who are the next generation of leaders in our community. Applications should be returned to the PHS office  no later than Tuesday, October 9.

The Randolph County Health Department will be on campus October 12th to administer flu vaccines. Consent forms will be sent home this week in English classes. Please see the nurse with any questions.

Congratulations to the boys golf team who finished the season 3rd in the District Tournament on September 17th. Jared Erwin and Logan Dunkerson qualified individually for the Boys State Tournament on October 3rd at Sage Meadows in Jonesboro. The boys team finished the year with a 31-6 record.

Congratulations Emma Hoggard, who placed 8th out of 70 girls!!! ALL STATE GOLF!!! Your Redskin family is proud of you and your hard work!!!

The homecoming dance date sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board across from the office. Students taking a date who does not attend PHS must be signed up in advance. Students must be in 9-12 grades in attending another school and under the age of 21 if not attending high school. Deadline to sign dates is October 5th at noon.

Any NHS member that is interested in decorating and riding the NHS Homecoming float needs to sign up with Mrs. Murray.

UAMS is excited about our upcoming program series, “A Day in the Life”. Planning and preparation are now underway for both A Day in the Life - Variety” and “A Day in the Life of a Nurse”.  These one-day programs are aimed at helping High School Seniors decide on a medical career by providing information, interaction with professionals, tours, and hands-on activities. Please let students know because of space limitations, they may only choose one of these events. Please see the nurse for an application or with any questions.

New Art Club members are still being accepted.

Application 101 will be held for seniors during lunch on October 11th in Mrs. Hampton’s office. Please register by accepting Mrs. Stewart’s email invitation.

The PHS Booster Club is selling kickoff shirts for $10 each. If you’re interested, please see Monica Brewington before school, during her prep period at 10:00, or after school. Picture of shirt is attached.

FBLA - All members need to sign up for our FBLA Remind.  Go to rmd.at/pokeyfbla follow the instructions, you will be prompted to download the app.  For Text notifications, text the message “@pokeyfbla” to 81010. This is important to stay up to date on the club meetings and information you need to know throughout the year.

FBLA- Members who planned to attend Fall Conference October 11th must attend a mandatory meeting October 10th to sign the bus seating chart and go over dress codes/rules.

FFA - Members wanting to order FFA jackets, please see Mr. Washburn for details.

Key Club - Meetings are every Thursday at lunch in Mr. Smith’s room.  Dues will be $15. Deadline to join was yesterday.

Circle of Friends - Anyone interested in joining Circle of Friends please see Mrs. Barber for an application.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW) is offering a grand prize of $30,000 and other prizes for winners of the Voice of Democracy Scholarship Program. The competition requires a patriotic audio essay, and the 2018-2019 theme is “Why My Vote Matters.” The entry deadline is October 31st, so stop by the counselor’s office soon for more information.

10th-12th grade students: Do you plan to play college sports? Stop by the counselor's office for info on how to start the process through NCAA.

The new meeting place for all college/military recruiters from now on will be in the student center during lunch. This should make it easier for students to participate. Specific dates and visitors will be added to the announcements regularly.

A representative from Army National Guard will be in the student center during lunch on Tuesday, October 2nd to meet with any interested students.

A recruiter from A-State will be in the STUDENT CENTER during lunch on Monday, October 8th to visit with any interested seniors.

A representative form College of the Ozarks will be set up in the student center during lunch October 18th.

A representative from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway will be in the student center during lunch on Thursday, November 15.

A representative form the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville will be in the student center during lunch on Friday, October 12th.
