Congratulations to the Marching Redskins!! They took 1st in marching in class and overall, 1st place Drum Major in class and overall, 1st in percussion in class and overall, 1st in Colorguard in class, 1st Band in class and 2nd overall!

Reminder: Please remember once a student has reached 6 absences in any given class period that a parent note will not excuse that absence. After 6 absences, the only notes that excuse students are doctor notes, death or serious injury in the immediate family, an appt with government agency, participation in FFA, FHA, or 4H activities, or exceptional circumstances with prior approval of the principal/assistant principal. Please also remember excuse notes must be presented to the office within 5 days of returning to school. Notes presented more that 5 days may not be accepted. Notes should be turned into the office first thing in the morning, (for more details see page 27/28  of the District Pupil Policies handbook.)

Project Graduation 9 Pin No-Top Bowling Tournament - October 28

1:30 p.m. @ P&R Bowling Lanes

$10 per person and half the proceeds go to the winner of the tournament and the other half will go to Project Graduation. (cash or check only)

Anyone interested in signing up will need to see Orianna Massey (870-758-2221) or Bryanna Lewis (870-202-8113). You can also see Paula Lewis at P&R Bowling Lanes (870-202-2524).

Must pay dues by October 26th (after this there will be a $2 late fee)

*Note: "Anyone can receive the cash prize at the end of the tournament regardless of age."

Smoke Signal - The Pocahontas High School Smoke Signal website is now up and running!  Be sure to check out the September Edition online at https://phssmokesignal.wixsite.com/eedition

UAMS is excited about our upcoming program series, “A Day in the Life”. Planning and preparation are now underway for both A Day in the Life - Variety” and “A Day in the Life of a Nurse”.  These one-day programs are aimed at helping High School Seniors decide on a medical career by providing information, interaction with professionals, tours, and hands-on activities. Please let students know because of space limitations, they may only choose one of these events. Please see the nurse for an application or with any questions.

The PHS Booster Club is selling kickoff shirts for $10 each. If you’re interested, please see Monica Brewington before school, during her prep period at 10:00, or after school. Picture of shirt is attached.

We are selling Special Olympic T-Shirts! Help us support our outstanding athletes! Order forms (attached at the bottom) and money are due by October 26. Please turn these in to Tabitha Phelps, Courtney Throesch, or any SPED teacher.

FBLA - All members need to sign up for our FBLA Remind.  Go to rmd.at/pokeyfbla follow the instructions, you will be prompted to download the app.  For Text notifications, text the message “@pokeyfbla” to 81010. This is important to stay up to date on the club meetings and information you need to know throughout the year.

FFA - Members wanting to order FFA jackets, please see Mr. Washburn for details.

Key Club - Meetings are every Thursday at lunch in Mr. Smith’s room.

Circle of Friends - Applications need to be turned in as soon as possible.

FCCLA - The Pocahontas FCCLA chapter would like to Congratulate Kassadee Pritchard for being selected as the District 3 President for the 2019-2020 school year!!!!

ASMSA

If you are in 10th or 11th grade, have a 3.25 GPA or higher, and are interested in attending the residential Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts in Hot Springs for advanced juniors and seniors, a representative will be in the student center during lunch on November 6, 2018.

COLLEGE DAYS

11th Grade – 1 day in Spring Semester

12th Grade – 1 day in Fall Semester

                 – 1 day in Spring Semester

If you are planning to take a College Day, please remember you must not have exceeded the

allowable absences in a semester and you will need to get a form from the office prior to the

visit. The student must meet with the school counselor and have the form signed by the

counselor and a parent; then turn into the office the day before visit. The student must provide

written verification of the visit to the office upon returning to school.

COLLEGE/MILITARY REPRESENTATIVE VISITS

All representatives will set up in the student center during lunch.

The Peer Advocacy Committee would like to announce that October is National Bullying

Prevention Awareness Month!  Pocahontas High School is officially a proud 2018 supporter of

the Stomp Out Bullying campaign and would like to encourage all students

SCHOLARSHIPS/CONTESTS

        Please join Mrs. Hampton’s Google Classroom titled Scholarships/Contests to get information

and updates about available scholarships and contests! To join, go to Google Classroom and

The U of A College Access Initiative will award all-expense paid trips to Fayetteville (including transportation) for one student and guardian on November 2-3, 2018. Participants will have an opportunity to explore the campus as well as immerse themselves in college readiness workshops that speaks to seamless transition from high school to college. Deadline to apply is this Sunday (October 14, 2018).

ASTATE will be accepting the December ACT again this year for scholarship purposes as long as you are admitted to their college by December 1st. Deadline to register for the December ACT is November 2nd.
