DID YOU KNOW?
ALL Pocahontas School District students receive FREE breakfast and lunch this school year! But there’s one very important step we still need from our families:
📋 EVERY FAMILY is encouraged to complete the 2026–2027 meal application.
Even though students are currently receiving meals at no cost, completing the application is extremely important to helping our district maintain our meal program for future years.
Please take just a few minutes to complete yours today!

Several students in Mrs. Shelly Jones’ class stepped up to help their classmates master long division. We love seeing students encourage one another, share what they’ve learned, and work together toward success! ❤️📚
Great things happen when we learn together!

Bus Route Notice for Tomorrow Morning
Due to limited bus staffing tomorrow morning, the Deer bus route may experience delays. Students on the Deer route may also be picked up by a different bus driver than usual.
We appreciate our families’ patience and understanding as we work to get all students to school safely.
📚 ATLAS Interim Testing is Here!
As our students complete ATLAS Interim assessments, we want to help them be ready to do their best each day.
⭐ Be at school and on time — attendance is especially important during testing.
😴 Get a good night’s sleep — being well-rested helps students stay focused.
🍳 Eat a good breakfast — start the day fueled and ready to learn.
💪 Encourage your student — remind them to take their time, stay focused, and give their best effort.
ATLAS Interim assessments give our teachers valuable information about student progress and help guide instruction throughout the year.
Thank you for helping us set our students up for success! ❤️
Reminder: there is NO Redskin Academy today!

Mr. Avery’s 5th grade students are putting their geography skills to work!
Students recently practiced using latitude and longitude to locate specific places on a map, building their understanding of geography through hands-on learning.

Bus Route Update

📣 EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAY | MDW
Today is Early Release Wednesday! Here are a few important reminders and updates for MDW families:
🚗 Remember the Horseshoe traffic flow and please follow the designated MDW lanes and staff directions. Remain in your vehicle and pull all the way forward to help us keep traffic moving.
🏷️ Please have your MDW car pickup tag clearly displayed in your vehicle. Having tags visible and ready will help our staff identify students and keep the line moving efficiently.
🚶 Walkers going to the church or funeral home will be released at 1:35 PM in an effort to help with traffic flow.
❤️ MDW students who need to wait for a PJHS student will be directed to a designated waiting area at PJHS to wait for that student.
💬 Please communicate your student’s expected dismissal plan with your student and their teacher. We know plans can change, but having a plan ahead of time helps everyone prepare.
⏰ Remember, checkouts, phone calls, and other office communication will be limited after 1:15 PM as staff shift their focus to dismissal.
📚 Students remaining on campus will be engaged in educational activities until regular dismissal, and buses will run at their normal times.
Thank you for working with us as we continue making adjustments to create a safer and smoother Early Release Wednesday!

📣 EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAY UPDATE | MDW
MDW families, we have a couple of additional updates for Early Release Wednesday as we continue working to improve traffic flow and make dismissal as smooth as possible.
Walkers going to the church or funeral home will be released at 1:35 PM. This slightly earlier release is intended to help reduce congestion and improve traffic flow as car pickup begins.
MDW students waiting on a PJHS student will be directed to a designated waiting area at PJHS to wait for that student. This will help keep students safely out of the pickup traffic while also helping the Horseshoe continue moving.
As with any new process, we’ll continue to make small adjustments as we see what works best. We appreciate our MDW families working with us and following staff directions as we make Early Release Wednesday safer and smoother for everyone!

📣 EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAY | SEPTEMBER 2
Early Release Wednesday is happening again this Wednesday, September 2!
As we continue working to make the process smoother and more efficient for our families, a few small changes are being made to improve the car pickup experience. We’ll share more information about those updates tomorrow for PES, so be on the lookout!

🏷️ MDW families: Please remember to have your car pickup tag clearly displayed in your vehicle. Having your tag visible and ready will help our staff identify students more quickly and keep the pickup line moving.
💬 Talk with your student and their teacher ahead of Wednesday about dismissal plans. We understand plans can change, but having that conversation ahead of time helps students and staff know what to expect and makes dismissal smoother for everyone.
⏰ Please take care of student checkouts before 1:15 PM. As dismissal approaches, office staff will be focused on coordinating students, transportation, and dismissal, so checkouts, phone calls, and other office communication will be limited after 1:15 PM.

🎶 Attention, new 6th grade band parents!
The Pocahontas Band will host a meeting tonight with an instrument representative from Amro Music. Instruments will be available to rent-to-own, and because the district has a limited number of school-owned instruments, parents are strongly encouraged to attend if possible.
We’re excited to welcome our newest students to the Pocahontas Band Program! 🎺🥁🎷
