Congratulations to the PHS chess team for winning first place at the Chess Association for Arkansas Schools regional tournament on Saturday! Also a special congratulations to Matthew Stowers for going undefeated and being named MVP for the senior high division for 4A-7A schools!
Students may make purchases at the coffee house during lunch and after. Coffee house items are not allowed out of the library. You must stay in the library until you finish your drink.
If any student is interested in participating in the Project Graduation Bowling Tournament, there are flyers by the bulletin board across from the office. If you have any other questions, please talk to Orianna Massey or Bryanna Lewis.

The annual GT parent meeting will be Monday, November 5 at 6:00 in the PJHS library. Guest speaker will be Dr. Julie Lamb-Milligan, Professor and Director of Gifted Education, ASU. Parents of GT students are invited to attend.

Reminder: Please remember once a student has reached 6 absences in any given class period that a parent note will not excuse that absence. After 6 absences, the only notes that excuse students are doctor notes, death or serious injury in the immediate family, an appt with government agency, participation in FFA, FHA, or 4H activities, or exceptional circumstances with prior approval of the principal/assistant principal. Please also remember excuse notes must be presented to the office within 5 days of returning to school. Notes presented more that 5 days may not be accepted. Notes should be turned into the office first thing in the morning, (for more

If you are in 10th or 11th grade, have a 3.25 GPA or higher, and are interested in attending the residential Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts in Hot Springs for advanced juniors and seniors, a representative will be in the student center during lunch on November 7, 2018.
Reminder: To take the ACT, you MUST take your ticket, a photo ID, a calculator, and pencils. Photo ID’s can be made at the DMV for $5.00

If you are planning to take a College Day, please remember you must not have exceeded the
allowable absences in a semester and you will need to get a form from the office prior to the
visit. The student must meet with the school counselor and have the form signed by the
counselor and a parent; then turn into the office the day before visit. The student must provide
written verification of the visit to the office upon returning to school.

Prevention Awareness Month! Pocahontas High School is officially a proud 2018 supporter of
the Stomp Out Bullying campaign and would like to encourage all students
SCHOLARSHIPS/CONTESTS
A-state Connection is a FREE overnight diversity recruitment program (April 26-27, 2019) for jr’s and sr’s from underrepresented racial/ethnic backgrounds. Juniors that have over an 18 ACT score and a 3.0 GPA or seniors with a 19 ACT score and a 2.75 GPA may apply. The weekend will be filled with fun and informative sessions to connect students to all aspects of academic and campus life at A-State. The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC) honors women in grades 9 through 12 who are active and interested in computing and technology and encourages them to pursue their passions. Award for AiC recipients is chosen for their demonstrated interest and achievements in computing, proven leadership ability, academic performance, and plans for post-secondary education. Any U.S. female student in grades 9 through 12 is eligible to apply and should meet in Mrs. Phelps’ classroom Thursday at lunch. This will be a working lunch so bring your food with you. Contact Mrs. Phelps if you need a note.
