✨ Fantastic Friday is ON today at Redskin Academy! ✨

Just a reminder that Fantastic Friday is in session for Redskin Academy students only.

If your child will not be attending, any transportation changes must be made through the school office. Please call the office to ensure we have accurate dismissal plans.

Our character trait for the month of January was Respect. Today, we had an assembly honoring those students nominated by their teachers as well as teachers nominated by their peers. Congratulations to all who were nominated!

In Ms. Jones’ class, students combined science and literacy skills to answer the question:

“How can we create something to keep our egg from breaking when dropped?”

They identified the problem, designed solutions, and put their ideas to the test — learning through creativity and hands-on exploration!

❄️ A Snowy Day in Pre-K! ❄️

Yesterday in Pre-K, students read The Snowy Day, talked about feelings, and practiced making the /s/ sound like “snow,” “sun,” and “smile.” ☀️

They worked on taking turns, being respectful friends, and building gross motor skills — all while enjoying a (very fun!) classroom snowball fight! 🥶❄️

🎉 National School Counseling Week 🎉 This week, we’re celebrating the incredible school counselors who support our students every single day — academically, socially, and emotionally. The 100th Day of School will be celebrated tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3 at Pocahontas Elementary! 🎉💯 We’re excited to mark this fun milestone with our students—see you tomorrow as we celebrate 100 days of learning and growing! ❤️📚

Good news! Our maintenance and custodial crews have worked diligently to clear ice from roofs, overhangs, parking lots, and walkways. The campus is safe and ready to welcome students back. School will be in session tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3. We are incredibly grateful to our maintenance and custodial team for their dedication and hard work in ensuring our buildings are safe for students and staff. Their commitment to our school community does not go unnoticed. We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

While travel conditions have improved, ice remains on parts of our parking lots and school buildings, including roofs and overhangs. With temperatures expected to rise tomorrow, falling ice poses a risk to students and staff during arrival, dismissal, and outdoor transitions. Out of an abundance of caution, school will be closed tomorrow while custodial & maintenance crews continue to address these conditions. Student safety is always our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding as we take the necessary steps to ensure a safe return.

Pocahontas School District will be closed on Friday, January 30. Friday’s Highland basketball games and Saturday’s Brookland games have been postponed, as well. Updates will be shared when available.
