Student Empowerment in Action at Pocahontas Elementary! ❤️
Through our implementation of the Capturing Kids’ Hearts framework, students are being recognized for positive choices each day.
Students can earn Redskin Bucks and spend them at the Redskin Store on fun rewards like eating with a teacher or friend, sitting at the Rockstar Table, or sharing something good on the lunchroom microphone.
Celebrating positive behavior and empowering students every day!

The community is invited to celebrate culture and heritage at Islander Night tomorrow at M.D. Williams School from 2:00–5:00 PM.
This special event will feature traditional foods, cultural dances, and displays that highlight Islander heritage for everyone to enjoy. It’s a great opportunity for our community to come together, learn, and celebrate the rich cultures represented in our district.
We hope to see you there!

For families like Carla Wiseman and Kristen Thielemier, Pocahontas is more than a workplace — it’s home. Carla has dedicated decades to serving students in our district, while Kristen, a proud PHS graduate, returned to raise her family and give back to the community that helped shape her life.
When you choose Pocahontas, you’re choosing a community that invests in students, supports families, and builds lasting connections.
📝 School Choice Deadline: June 1

❄️🐻❄️ Hands-On Science in Ms. Muller’s Class!
Students recently learned how Arctic animals stay warm by studying blubber. To see it in action, they placed one hand in a bag with Crisco and the other without, then dipped both in icy water. The “blubber” hand stayed much warmer!
Learning comes to life through hands-on experiments like this. 🧪✨

Pocahontas Elementary students celebrated Read Across America Week by dressing up as the careers they hope to have one day. From doctors and teachers to athletes and firefighters, our halls were full of big dreams and bright futures!

Our elementary students had some special guest readers this week — Rotary Club members and even Dr. Lance Arbuckle and Mr. Green joined in the fun!
We love seeing leaders from across our district take time to sit in a classroom, share a story, and help inspire a love of reading.

Yesterday our students showed up in their favorite socks to celebrate Read Across America Week and a love for reading! 🧦📚

🌟 Our February character trait was Kindness! 🌟
Yesterday's assembly celebrated students nominated by their teachers and teachers nominated by their peers. Big congratulations to all who were recognized!

During Parent-Teacher Conferences, our second grade families were invited to share something their child has done this year that makes them proud — and the responses were incredible! ✏️✨

In honor of Black History Month, students in our Redskin Academy after-school program learned about Faith Ringgold. They enjoyed her powerful children’s book, Tar Beach, and explored how storytelling and art can come together in meaningful ways.
Inspired by Ringgold’s story quilts, our students created their own “story quilts” featuring images and ideas that represent what matters most to them. ❤️
