The community is invited to celebrate culture and heritage at Islander Night tomorrow at M.D. Williams School from 2:00–5:00 PM.

This special event will feature traditional foods, cultural dances, and displays that highlight Islander heritage for everyone to enjoy. It’s a great opportunity for our community to come together, learn, and celebrate the rich cultures represented in our district.

Our Pocahontas Redskin baseball and softball teams showed up strong for NEA Sports Media Day! Proud of these student-athletes and excited for the season ahead.

Students had a great opportunity to attend the Kiwanis meeting recently at Black River Technical College! They learned about the Kiwanis Club’s upcoming 21st Annual Golf Tournament and the many ways our community can get involved and show support. We appreciate opportunities like this that connect our students with local organizations and help them learn the value of community involvement.

Recently, Pocahontas High School FFA members traveled to Arkansas State University to compete in the Eastern District Career Development Event (CDE) Contest. Our students represented Pocahontas well with teams competing in Horse Evaluation, Livestock Evaluation, Land Evaluation, and Electricity.

We’re also proud of PHS FFA member and State FFA Officer Roxy Shoe, who helped kick off the event by giving the welcome to participants from across the district. Great job to our FFA students for their hard work and dedication!

Our elementary students had some special guest readers this week — Rotary Club members and even Dr. Lance Arbuckle and Mr. Green joined in the fun! We love seeing leaders from across our district take time to sit in a classroom, share a story, and help inspire a love of reading.

Today’s home baseball game vs. Bay has been moved up to a 4:00 PM start time. Our Lady Redskins hit the road today to take on Carlisle with first pitch set for 5:00 PM! Please plan accordingly and help us spread the word. Go Redskins!

Update on Baseball Field Lights Over the past several days, our district has been actively working to resolve an issue with the baseball field lights. As of Friday, we believed we had identified and implemented a solution. However, during tonight’s game against Salem, it became clear that the fix did not adequately meet the electrical demands of the system. We sincerely apologize to our student-athletes, families, and fans for the disruption to competition during play. We understand how disappointing and frustrating this was for everyone involved. Our team has already developed a plan to move forward with additional repairs beginning tomorrow. We are optimistic that these next steps will fully resolve the issue, and it is our expectation that this situation will not occur again. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure a reliable experience for our students and community.

What an incredible showing for Pocahontas at the State Swim Meet! The Lady Redskins finished 3rd overall in the state, missing 2nd place by just 3 points — an outstanding accomplishment at the highest level of competition. 👏 Relay Results: • 200 Medley Relay (Maggie, Audrie, Lauren, Chloe) – 6th • 200 Free Relay (Abby, Audrie, Chloe, Maggie) – 4th • 400 Free Relay (Abby, Audrie, Maggie, Lauren) – 4th 🏅 Individual Highlights: • Chloe – 8th (200 IM), 10th (100 Fly) • Audrie – 8th (200 Free) • Lauren – 🥉 3rd (500 Free) & 🥈 2nd (100 Breaststroke) — All-State Honors • Abby – 7th (50 Free), 6th (100 Back) • Maggie – 5th (500 Free) 🏊‍♂️ Isaiah Land also represented the Redskins well, finishing 🥉 3rd in the 50 Free and 7th in the 100 Free. We are incredibly proud of these student-athletes for their hard work, determination, and the way they represent Pocahontas School District with excellence.

Our 10th grade students recently toured the Career & Technical programs at Black River Technical College, exploring hands-on career opportunities for their future. They also heard an inspiring presentation from Brian Rodgers in observance of Black History Month — a meaningful experience that encouraged learning, reflection, and growth.
