Important Information Regarding Graduation

Pocahontas High School 2312 Stadium Dr. Pocahontas, AR 72455	870-892-4573 www.pocahontaspsd.com Students, Parents/Guardians, and Community Members, We want to provide you all with an update on graduation this evening. At this moment, we have not made a determination as to whether our graduation ceremony will be on the football field or in the gym. As I am sure you all know, the preferred location for graduation would be on the football field. We are wanting to make this decision as late as possible in order to ensure that we make an accurate decision as to the location of graduation. If there is any possibility that we can have graduation on the field, we want to be able to do so. We are diligently watching several weather services in order to make the best decision possible for not only the ceremony, but the safety and well being of all attendees. We appreciate your patience in this matter and, no matter what location we decide upon, graduation will start at 8:00 pm. Please come prepared for both and, as a reminder, we will be shutting down the entrances to campus to only the entrance at the stoplight by McNabb’s. Again, thank you for your understanding in our efforts to make sure we choose the best location for graduation this evening. Christian Helms PHS Principal

Important Information Regarding Graduation for the Class of 2025

Pocahontas High School 2312 Stadium Dr. Pocahontas, AR 72455	870-892-4573 www.pocahontaspsd.com Students, Parents/Guardians, and Community Members, The following information is only IF the Graduation ceremony has to be moved into the gymnasium. We are aware that there is a possibility for inclement weather Friday evening which could potentially warrant a change in our graduation ceremony. It is our hope that the rain will hold off and we will be able to continue with our ceremony on the football field. Please know that safety is our number one priority and we are monitoring the weather closely. With that, we do want to communicate with you that we do have an alternate schedule for graduation in the event we cannot be on the field and we are actively planning and will be ready for both scenarios. IF we cannot have graduation on the field, we will have graduation in the PHS Gym. Due to Fire Code restrictions and safety concerns, each student will receive 10 tickets to pass out to their guests for the ceremony. These tickets will be passed out to the students at graduation practice Friday morning and will only be needed IF the ceremony is moved to the Gym. Guests will turn their tickets in at the door and we encourage you to arrive early. We will have classrooms and our student center available livestreaming the ceremony for any guests who attend that cannot be in the gym. Graduation will be livestreamed through our Pocahontas School District Youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@psdtv8637.
A reminder that graduates are to report to PHS with their cap and gown by 8:15 am Friday, May 16, for practice. A group picture will be taken at 8:30 am. Regardless of location, students will report to their designated rooms in the Math/Science Hall by 7:30 pm Friday night. Students will receive their room designation at practice Friday morning. A reminder that each student will receive parking passes for their guests for the ceremony due to another event happening so close to campus. There is not necessarily a limit to how many parking passes a student can get, this is simply a means to help ensure that our parking spots at graduation are dedicated to those attending the ceremony and to help our School Resource Officers know in a more efficient manner who is coming on to campus for graduation or attempting to go to the other event. If someone attending does not have a pass, Officers will simply stop the vehicle to determine what they are coming onto campus for. If your student needs more passes, please have them come by the PHS Office this week to get more. You will only be able to enter campus Friday via the stoplight by McNabb’s, we will shut down the entrance between the baseball and softball fields. We appreciate your understanding of the difficult decisions that are made in these situations as we strive to ensure an equitable, meaningful graduation experience for all students and families. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 870-892-4573 ext 4003 or at christian.helms@pocahontaspsd.com. Christian Helms PHS Principal
