For families like Carla Wiseman and Kristen Thielemier, Pocahontas is more than a workplace — it’s home. Carla has dedicated decades to serving students in our district, while Kristen, a proud PHS graduate, returned to raise her family and give back to the community that helped shape her life.

This evening one of our district school buses was involved in a minor traffic accident while attempting to turn around on its route. A car attempted to pass the bus during the maneuver and made contact with the vehicle.
We are grateful to report that all students and the bus driver are safe, and there were no injuries. The bus sustained only minimal damage. District staff responded immediately and ensured students were safely transported home.
We appreciate the quick response of our driver and local authorities. This situation is also a good reminder for all motorists to use caution and patience when driving near school buses to help keep our students safe.
Thank you for your continued support of our schools and the safety of our students.

Our elementary students had some special guest readers this week — Rotary Club members and even Dr. Lance Arbuckle and Mr. Green joined in the fun!

Update on Baseball Field Lights
Over the past several days, our district has been actively working to resolve an issue with the baseball field lights. As of Friday, we believed we had identified and implemented a solution. However, during tonight’s game against Salem, it became clear that the fix did not adequately meet the electrical demands of the system.
We sincerely apologize to our student-athletes, families, and fans for the disruption to competition during play. We understand how disappointing and frustrating this was for everyone involved.
Our team has already developed a plan to move forward with additional repairs beginning tomorrow. We are optimistic that these next steps will fully resolve the issue, and it is our expectation that this situation will not occur again.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure a reliable experience for our students and community.
Thank you to Swept Away for their generous $1,000 donation to our Food Bag Program!
Support like this helps us continue meeting the needs of students and families across Pocahontas School District. We’re so grateful for community partners who give back in meaningful ways.
If you or your business would like to support the Food Bag Program, please contact your building office for more information.
