Coronation of the Maids will start at 6:30 p.m. with the football game following at 7:00 p.m.. Students, Parents & Community Members, The Pocahontas High School will have Homecoming on Friday, October 8th. We are working to provide as traditional a Homecoming as possible, while still following guidelines and mandates. The schedule of this year’s Homecoming activities are as follows: Spirit Week Monday 10/4 - Color Wars: Seniors/Blue, Juniors/Purple, Sophomores/Yellow Tuesday 10/5 - Mathletes vs Athletes Wednesday 10/6 - Jersey Day Thursday 10/7 - Holiday Day Friday 10/8 - Red and White Day Bonfire The Bonfire Pep Rally will be from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. behind the Business Education building on Thursday, October 7th. Senior football players will light the bonfire at 7:00 p.m. and there will be a pep rally that follows. Students, parents and community Members are welcome to attend. School rules, policies and mandates will be enforced. *There will be NO Homecoming Tailgate Party before the bonfire this year due to Covid. Coronation Coronation will be held on the football field this year for social distancing purposes. We will have a traditional ceremony while following current guidelines and mandates. Maids will meet on the football field at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 7th. Maids and Senior football players will meet at 8:00 a.m. at the football field for rehearsal on Friday, October 8th. The Coronation ceremony will begin at 12:40 p.m. on Friday. If there is inclement weather forecasted for the day of Homecoming the coronation ceremony will be held in the high school gymnasium. Each maid and senior football player will receive a guest list and 6 vouchers to give out to family and friends. You must have a voucher and be on the guest list to enter, school policies and mandates will be enforced. A livestream will be available to students and families that are not able to attend. We will post a link to social media if that happens. We ask those in attendance to exit campus in a timely manner to avoid a traffic jam for the Homecoming parade taking place immediately after coronation. Parade Immediately after Coronation the Homecoming parade will take place. The parade will start on the east side of campus by the baseball/softball fields. The parade will move west through the high school campus and up through the Jr High and MD Williams entrances, then turn west onto Hwy 90 to the new Alma Spikes. Traffic will be stopped at the N. Park Street stop light when the parade heads toward the new Alma Spikes on Hwy 90.Traffic will also be stopped for the parade at the entrance of the new Alma Spikes when the parade concludes. This should be from around 1:45 to 2:30 p.m.. * If there is inclement weather the parade will be canceled. Pep Rally After the parade there will be a short pep rally for the student body. Students will be released for dismissal after the pep rally. Coronation before the game. The coronation before the game will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the football field. Maids and their guardian escorts will meet in the Student Center at 5:45 p.m. on October 8th. Any student or guardian coming into the Student Center will be asked to wear a mask while around other students. * The Homecoming Dance has been cancelled due to Covid 19

***The Health Department will be on campus August 24, 2021 to administer vaccinations for those students who need them in order to be up to date for school attendance. This clinic will NOT include Covid vaccinations. The HD will be at the HS campus from 8 am-9 am. Parents may call the school nurse with any questions. Students must receive required immunizations by Sep 17, 2021 to stay in good standing for school attendance. There will be a separate COVID vaccination clinic on August 24, 2021 from 10 am - 2 pm in the high school student center. A PARENT/GUARDIAN must be present for the student to receive the vaccine if they choose to get vaccinated. It is not required for students to have the covid vaccine. Vaccinations will take approximately 20-30 minutes per student and students will wait at least 15 minutes after receiving the vaccine before they can leave the student center. Consent forms will be sent home with students and must be returned by August 23, 2021 to your child's school nurse.

Pocahontas Schools to Open August 18th Pocahontas Public Schools will begin classes Wednesday, August 18, 2021. School will be in session on the regular schedule. School will begin at 7:50 a.m. Dismissal times at Pocahontas Elementary will be 2:55 p.m. for car riders and 3:10 p.m. for bus riders. All other schools within the district will dismiss all students at 3:20 p.m. Buses will attempt to run their regular bus routes. Bus stops and pick-up times may vary depending on the student movement within the district. Breakfast and lunch will be served beginning the first day of school on August 18. The 2021-2022 school calendar will be as follows regarding dates when school is not in session: Labor Day – September 6 Fall Break – October 22 Thanksgiving – November 22-26 Christmas – December 20 – December 31 Martin Luther King Day – January 17 Presidents’ Day – February 21 Spring Break – March 21-25 Easter Break – April 15 Last day of school – May 27 Memorial Day – May 30 In the event more than five-(5) weather days are used during the school year, the calendar will be revisited in order to determine how many remaining days missed are to be rescheduled.

"Parents Make the Difference" Orientation Night Pocahontas Public Schools will conduct “Parents Make the Difference” orientation sessions for students/parents in grades Pre-K-12. These orientations give parents an opportunity to meet with their child’s principal and teacher(s). The sessions are intended to welcome parents and students. The students at High School will also have the opportunity to purchase parking passes at $3.00 each. Students at Junior High will be assigned lockers with a combination lock at no charge.
